Alexander's obituary

September 14, 2021

Alexander C. Greene was born on April 20, 1936, in Perry, FL to the late Deacon

James B. Early and Rutha Bell Greene. He was affectionally known as “Chubby” or

Uncle Chubby to his family. He was the third of eight children: James Benjamin Jr;

James Alton, Thomas Alonzo, Jeanette Delores, Jerry Elijah, Earline and Mary Lou.

Except for his mother and sisters, the Greene men; his father and all his brothers

were members of the Armed Forces providing over 78 years of service.

He attended the Taylor County School System until he entered the United States Air

Force in 1954. He served and represented his country on both domestic and foreign

soil for twenty-one years. His final duty station was Homestead Air Force Base,

retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1975. He continued his education at Florida

International University, earning his master’s degree in Business Administration and

Personnel Management. He worked for the State of Florida Employment Office for

eight years, managing the Homestead Office. He went on to become the Personnel

Manager for the Florida Department of Corrections for eighteen years. Following

that retirement, he created and managed a GED Preparatory Program for anyone

seeking their GED. He also ran for Florida City, City Commissioner, making his

platform, educating the forgotten youth. He was always a no-nonsense person,

letting you know to leave the foolishness at the door, yet his home and his heart

was open to anyone who sincerely wanted to better themselves. His service to

others is evident by those who remember Mr. Greene encouraging them to do their best and go for their attainable goals.

Alexander was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara Ann (Jones) who he

affectionately called “Bobbie”, two children; Shirley Ann and Robert Martin Greene,

two grandchildren; Darryl and LaPorsha Greene.

Forever cherishing his memories are his children; Diane Bell (Valdosta, GA); Phyllis

Nicholas (Atlanta, GA); Selvin King (Perry, FL); Rita Greene and Alexander Greene

(Florida City, FL); Michael Greene (Bushnell, FL); 20 Grandchildren, 28 Great-

Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; his special companion Sheila.

Carpenter and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives

and friends.

A Loving tribute To Our Dad

Our father didn’t tell us how to live.

He lived and let us watch him do it.

He was not an anchor to hold us back

Nor a sail to take us there

But a guiding light whose love showed us the way.
