I am so sorry to hear this, Erin and Grady. I met Alex at a publishing conference in Providence, RI around 2009. I felt out of place and awkward. Alex cut right through my awkwardness with his friendly and warm manner. He invited me to join his dinner group and I quickly came to consider him a friend. He was so open, kind, and funny. The world will miss him tremendously.

You were my favorite family to work with at the Cambridge YMCA and Alex was truly a bright shining star and a wonderful person. I will always have great memories of him and I’m sorry to see him go. Sending lots of love and healing thoughts your way. I love how your obituary of him shares how truly one-of-a-kind and special he was.
An absolutely wonderful soul and I am grateful I got to know Alex even though it was just for a short period.
Oh my gosh,  Erin. So sorry to hear of this.  I hope he was not suffering long.  Take care of yourself.  Many hugs...

FROM JON  NELSON

“Alex was one of a kind. He was blessed to have both exceptionally high IQ and even more importantly high EQ. I’ve never met a better listener and more engaging person than Alex. There is not one piece of advice he ever game me that wasn’t 100% correct. His insights were always spot on too. Alex always made me smile both outside and inside. He cared about people. He always wanted to know how you are truly doing and feeling and wanted to talk about that first as point of entry. He focused on how your mind and soul was doing. That top priority. He was empathetic, kind, sarcastic, funny and most importantly had an incredible laugh. I am so fortunate to have been able to have Alex as a friend, business colleague and mentor. My favorite line Alex would say to me mid sentence is “you’re doing great” with an amazing grin. What impressed me most about Alex was his genuine love and respect he had for his wife and son. They were a great family unit who loved travel, history, great food, conversation and simply being themselves with no masking. Alex truly defined to me the best humanity has to offer. I love you bud.”

FROM MATT LEWIS

“Alex was a great friend, a strong advocate of me when I had very few of either, a mentor, and a thought partner in my early career and was instrumental in helping me see my own potential before I saw it myself. In my last conversation with him, I told him I couldn’t be the leader, the man I am, without his counsel, his consideration, his courage and his cheer. I love you, Alex, and always will, man.” -Matt
