Albert's obituary

Inventor, war hero, artist, carpenter, and aerospace engineer: this alone could be considered an impressive life lived. Yet Albert Alexander Yetman’s true legacy is that of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a man of great faith and generosity. A living embodiment of St. Francis’ “Preach the gospel at all times. Use words only when necessary.”

Born August 1st, 1932, to Newfoundlander parents in Brooklyn, New York, the second of three brothers. Served the US Army in Korea, receiving the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star; and honorably discharged as a sergeant. In 1955, met Patricia Russell and married in 1958. They went on to have 5 children: John, Matthew, Jeanne, Patricia, and Mark.

He attended Brooklyn Polytechnic University and earned his degree as an Aeronautical Engineer. Worked at NASA for 25 years on projects including the Apollo moon landings and the Cosmic Background Explorer. Retired as Branch Chief for Propulsion and Cryogenics and later headed McDonnell Douglas engineering group for 7 years. Developed an atomizer used in creating a finer mist for nebulizers and oil burners. Always enjoyed working with wood and created many original pieces of cabinetry. Later in life took up water-color painting. He was active in many volunteer activities including as a youth sports coach, scouts, church, community, VFW, and other various charitable organizations.

Albert died peacefully on February 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Holden Beach North Carolina. He is survived by his wife Pat and his younger brother Gene, 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at future date in Holden Beach, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care- Bolivia, NC, or the Holden Beach Chapel.
