Obituary for Elder Albert James Woodard (January 10, 1945 – May 31, 2025)

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7

With hearts full of gratitude and reverence, we celebrate the life, love, and legacy of Elder Albert James Woodard, who transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on May 31, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on January 10, 1945, to the late Tommie J. Woodard and Althea Weaver Woodard, Elder Woodard lived a life of purpose, faith, and unwavering devotion. He was educated in the Horry County School System, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service, learning, and spiritual growth.

A true man of God, Elder Woodard’s commitment to the gospel, his family, and his church remained steadfast throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of True Way Holiness Church, where he worshiped and served with humility and love. His passion for NASCAR, classic Westerns, and meaningful conversation made him a joy to be around. Above all, he treasured his family, consistently showing them the same unconditional love and care that reflected his relationship with Christ.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, Kelvin (April) Woodard, who continues his father’s legacy of strength, love, and faith. Elder Woodard is also preceded in death by his first wife, Snowry Woodard, and his second wife, Leona Woodard, with whom he gained several beloved bonus children including the late Gloria (Jimmy) Johnson, Bernita (Harold) Rodgers, Van Gause, Don (Marcia) Gause, Lendrell Gause, and Lavonya Wilson.

He was preceded in death by several of his siblings: Bishop Tommie Woodard, Levi Woodard, Bishop Lonnie Woodard, Ronald Woodard, and Charles Woodard. Elder Woodard also leaves and cherishes five amazing sisters: Lelia Bell Wrisper of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Mary Jackson of Covington, GA; Carolyn Coakley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Joyce Parker of Loris, SC; Maxine (Ron) Pughsley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and his devoted sister-in-law, Overseer Annie Bell Woodard of Longs, SC whom he held in high regard and love. He is also survived by his loving brothers: Bishop William (Shirley) Woodard of Shallotte, NC, and Andrew (Virginia) Woodard of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

In addition to being a devoted father, Elder Woodard was a proud and loving brother, uncle, grandfather, and spiritual father to many. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren, along with numerous bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him joy and pride in his later years.

Throughout his life, Elder Woodard walked with grace and served with joy. He often reminded others of God's promises and lived out his favorite scripture: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy lord." — Matthew 25:21

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that he is now resting in the arms of the Savior, reunited with loved ones, and basking in the eternal light of Heaven. His life was a sermon of love. His memory will forever be cherished.
