Albert L. Harbury (Al) passed away in the early hours of December 1, 2021, 90, at his home in Clemmons, NC following a battle with Cardiac Amyloidosis. By his side was his loving wife, Ann, dear friend, Sandy Morris, and compassionate Hospice RN, Nancy. He was born to the late Lawrence and Josephine Harbury in the Hague, Holland on September 30, 1931. The Harbury family immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Evelyn, grandson, Max, daughter, Dr. Lisa Lerner, and brother, Dr. Henry Harbury. He is survived by his elder sister, Bertha Evaline Russell, daughter, Dr. Eva Josephine, son, Pehr Harbury (Shivani), son, Henry Harbury (Susan). Stepchildren, Steven Barton (Monna), Timothy Barton, (Candace) and Susan Steele (Todd) and 13 grandchildren. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara, and Cal Tech, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an instructor in Ordinance Guided Missiles School. Upon leaving the Army he graduated from Harvard and Stanford. Universities.. After graduation, he worked for: Rayan Aeronautical Co., Aero physics Dev. Co., Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space, Co., and Nasa Ames in CA.
He retired and moved to Clemmons, in 1996 and worked as an adjunct instructor at Forsyth Tech and Winston-Salem State University. As a compassionate person he loved all living things. In an effort to advance research, Al generously donated his body to Wake Forest School of Medicine. Al was a pillar in our family and community. There will be no formal funeral. His ashes will be scattered on a future date in a private service. At a later date there will be a luncheon to honor his life. Information regarding event will be added to this website at a later date. We appreciate all the love and support and encourage everyone to share their favorite memories/photos of Al on this memorial website.
