Alan's obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alan Richard Jackson who passed away peacefully on November 22, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Alan was born in to Harold “Jack” and Barbara Jackson in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1951. He and his family and relocated to La Crecenta, California. Alan grew up and attended Crescenta Valley Highschool and graduated in 1969. Alan continued his education at Glendale Community  College  where he graduated with an associates degree in Art which was a great accomplishment.  Alan later married Joleene Cazier in September of 1979. A few years later, Alan was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through challenging times and instilling in him the virtues of compassion and service.  Alan enjoyed serving in ward callings and helping the boy scouts and teaching emergency preparedness classes with Joleene.  Alan also helped run a successful catering business. Alan's life was further enriched when he became a father to Maranda who was born in October of 1987.  His love for his daughter was boundless and he found great joy in being a father.  Alan divorced amicably in 1993.

Alan relocated to Sandy, Utah in the summer of 2002 to be closer to his daughter where they spent several years together doing lunch dates and watching movies together.  They enjoyed BBQs up  Millcreek Canyon and many car picnics. Some of Alan's favorite pastimes included watching his favorite TV shows, 'Star Trek: Next Generation' and 'X-Files'. He was captivated by the magic of 'Lord of the Rings' and found solace in the melodies of his favorite musician, Lorena McKennett. He enjoyed tinkering with toys, musical instruments, guns, knives and woodworking.

Alan was known for his funny and warm personality and deep laugh. His sense of humor brought laughter and comfort to those around him, and his warmth made him an inviting and supportive presence in any room. He enjoyed making others laugh and  tickling wars with his daughter and nieces.

In later years his health declined and he was moved into a long term care facility in Salt Lake City where enjoyed frequent visits with his daughter. He was able to attend the marriage of his daughter Maranda in May of 2016.

Alan was more than just a person; he was a beacon of positivity and love. His departure has undoubtedly left a void in our hearts, but the memories he created will be forever cherished.

He is predeceased in death by his mother and father,  Barbara Louise Vorhis Jackson and  Harold Raymond Jackson.

Alan is survived by his daughter Maranda (Derek) Koeven and a grandchild due in June 2017, as well as his brother Gary (Lyn) Jackson, sister Mary Ann (Tom) Odell and nieces Kaitlin and Emily Odell.

A private memorial service will be held on December 10, 2016 at the Salt Lake Millcreek 8th Ward meetinghouse in Salt Lake City at 1:00pm.

Alan’s ashes will be scattered  at location that was meaningful to Alan on December 12, 2016.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at St Joseph's Villa for tending to Alan and making him comfortable the last remaining years of his life.
