Ive been Al's mail carrier on Portage Lake for a couple years now. He seemed like a genuine guy with a big heart. He will be missed in the community. My condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences.
I rented from your Dad for about 6 months in 2013 when I began working for Mille Lacs County. We had some great conversations about hunting and fishing both in person and via social media. He was very proud of his kids.
He will be greatly missed.

I am saddened by Al’s untimely passing. I knew him primarily through the ARMER project, but we shared many common friends from his time in Richfield and Hennepin radio. He was extremely knowledgeable but had a way of passing his perspective along without making you feel like a dumb axx. My sincerest condolences to his family and other friends.

Since learning of Al’s death, I wanted to take some time and be thoughtful about what I said here. I really was just an acquaintance of his but when we were around each other, we enjoyed the conversation, the coffee or the beer and a sandwich. Those few times together in the same number of years, never once yielded the slightest clue that Al might be suffering from anything.
What did appear was that Al was very proud of his children and grandchildren and spoke of them lovingly. I don’t mind saying that he missed Gayle and in essence, made it known to me that if he could, he would like to have mended what went wrong.
In 1987, a close friend of mine died in a horrible car accident and at his funeral, I went to his sister and told her that I shared her grief. I now, will share the grief of Al’s family with the hope that knowing that someone else cares, will lighten their load.
With Sympathy

In the short time I worked with Al, it didn't take long to figure out that he was a generous, honest, and all-around friendly guy. My condolences to his friends and family.

I enjoyed working with Al during his time with Mille Lacs County. He helped our small town transition to the 800 MHZ radio system and helped keep things working smoothly for all of our radios . I was sad to learn of his passing .

Like for most Al was my mentor when I started a journey into radio programing for Mille Lacs County. He encouraged me to attended trainings and user group meetings to better my knowledge. We would attend radio conferences together where I felt I was with a celebrity, as everyone knew Al. Through his vast connection of individuals who he has inspired, I now have new friends who share my interest of radios. Thank you Al, I will miss you my friend.

I enjoyed working with Al during our time together helping to train agencies and end users on the MN ARMER radio system. He was always willing to help and impart his knowledge and experience to others. Prayers to his family and wishing Al, my friend, eternal peace.
