Alan's obituary

On Thursday, April 15, 2021, Alan B. Coull, loving father of five children, passed away at the age of 74. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on December 23, 1947 to David and Rita Coull. He moved to Connecticut in his youth, and on March 21, 1969 he married Jeanne Willwerth, together they raised five children, Natalie, Dawn, Melody, David, and Jesse.
Alan had an incredible talent for art and pinstriping, using these gifts to letter innumerable race cars through the years, as stockcar racing was another passion of his. He spent many of his weekends at various speedways, time he treasured with his brother “Bob”, and for a time had a weekly opinion piece in the Waterford Speedbowl’s program entitled, “A View From The Sump”. Another love of Alans was music; he absolutely loved to be in the limelight, playing guitar and singing, and writing some prolific songs including, “Christmas (is gonna be a bummer)” and “Rambler”. He enlisted the help of his children Melody and David in producing a weekly show of both original and cover folk music tunes; many of these shows were aired on the public access station for everyone’s enjoyment. He also was known to frequent open mic nights at a variety of bars in New England. He was well known for his infectious smile, love of laughter, and love of fun in general. He truly was “almost famous”, and “a legend in his own mind”. He loved his children immensely and was fiercely proud of all of them as individuals in their accomplishments in life and in love. He was not a traditional father, but a loving, supporting, and fun one, encouraging and celebrating his children’s uniqueness.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, David, and his mother Rita as well as his brothers “Ricky” Rudne and Alan A. Coull. He is survived by his children, Natalie Coull-White (Warren White), Dawn Coull (Marc Pilcher), Melody Coull (Andrew Johnson), David Coull (Raschelle Witherspooon), and Jesse Coull (Kelley Coull), and his grandchildren Simone Bouley, Alex Bouley, Timothy McKee, Savion Witherspoon, Sahir Coull, and Solomon Coull, his brother Laurence “Bob” Rudne, and many half-sisters, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service is being planned for a less restrictive time.
