Alan's obituary
Alan Charles Clute of Mountainair, New Mexico, passed peacefully on the evening of July 2. He was born in Berkeley, California, on April 12, 1944, and had lived in Iowa, Nebraska, and California, before moving to New Mexico in 2005.
While maintaining a career as a computer programmer, Alan was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fly-fishing in the Sierra Mountains, windsurfing, horseback riding, and shooting. A founding member of the Manzano Mountain Gun Club, Alan was particularly proud of attaining the Rifleman badge at an Appleseed event in 2010.
Alan was an accomplished guitarist who had accompanied flamenco dancers while living in California. He also enjoyed playing in a gamelan.
After years of spiritual practice and learning, Alan was ordained to the priesthood in The Liberal Catholic Church in California in 2001. With the support of his wife Kathleen, he maintained an oratory dedicated to St. Michael the Protector at his home in Deer Canyon Preserve, offering celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, house blessings, and healing services. He served the church and clergy as Provost for more than a decade.
He was predeceased by his parents, and leaves his wife, Kathleen Ryan Clute.
Alan’s life will be celebrated in a Requiem Eucharist at Our Lady Queen of Angels Liberal Catholic Church, on Saturday, July 19, at 10 AM. The church’s address is 1701 Tulip Rd SE, Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The service will be streamed online on the church's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/OLQA.LCC/
