Alan's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Colonel Alan "Sugarbear" Aldrich on November 16th, 2025. Born on March 19th, 1945, Alan led a life of generous service, unwavering commitment, and proud patriotism.

Alan leaves behind a beautiful legacy that includes his beloved wife of 26 years, Karole Aldrich, and their cherished step-daughters Koryn, Kolette, and Kassondra, along with their partners Scott and Anton. His losses are further felt by all those privileged to know and love him, including his many friends and comrades-in-arms within his military family.

A thirty-two year veteran of the Marines, Alan's service to his country is a testament to his steadfast nature and dogged loyalty. His venerable military career, punctuated by his eventual ascension to the rank of Colonel, stood as one of his greatest accomplishments. He was also a dedicated educator who spent countless hours imparting wisdom and knowledge to those fortunate enough to learn from him.

Alan had a stoic and intelligent nature, tempered with a love for life's simple pleasures. He comfortably enjoyed a good plate of Lasagna, savored a sip of Whiskey with a fine cigar, and relished in the strategic dynamism of Chess games and the grit found in Football matches. He was also a fan of classic Western movies and held a heartfelt affection for the colors Red, White, Blue, Scarlet, and Gold, likely as poignant reflections of his proud American identity and his military service.

Alan's deep love for dogs, notably his dear departed Etta Mae, was a cornerstone of his life. His commitment to these faithful animals was matched only by his dedication to his family, and his stalwart support for military causes. The lessons he shared, like his often-quoted wisdom, "I can't be bothered", will forever enlighten our paths.

We will remember Alan for his incredible strength and unwavering patience, tightly knit with an unbroken thread of commitment that ran through every aspect of his life. His enduring smile, which he kept up until his very end, will be sorely missed. While we mourn his departure, we also rejoice in his well-lived life, remembering him for the stability and strength he imparted to all who knew him.
