Christina my thoughts are with you, I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m happy to have had the opportunity to meet your mom.  I very much enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with you and your mom. Christina you were a very devoted and loving daughter and I could see how much your mother loved you. I hope that you have peace in your heart always. May God bless you both.

What can I say about my dear Aunt Agnes? I didn’t see her often, but we had a lively email conversation over the years.

When she retired in 2015, she said “I look forward to this new phase of my life.” In 2017, we moved to Sacramento for work and she offered to take care of our 5 cats—in Phoenix! Later that year, she remarked “I have only good memories of being employed and am quite content to have it behind me.”

In 2018, she wrote that “I’m still loving retirement and Christina is the best!” She then went on to talk about her volunteer work and entertaining herself with her books and “general nonsense.” She told us about Hazel, the night-shrieking rescue cat that she told “not to believe what she's heard about cats being nocturnal.”

A couple of years ago, she sent a picture of herself that was captioned “Agnes@80!” She looked 50 and, more importantly, lived 50! We often discussed politics (“FYI there are no decent politicians ANYWHERE”…) and she always mentioned family she’d seen, spoken with, received pictures from, or thought about.

That was Agnes…witty, slightly irreverent, well-read, and devoted to whatever endeavor she chose. She loved Christina madly, adored her family and friends, and was passionate about animals.

Sadly, we didn’t get to see her before she passed but can only imagine her saying “I look forward to this new phase of my life.” Agnes, we love you…we miss you…Godspeed.

I remember one night at Whittington Center, New Mexico. It was a Schwappach family reunion. There was a fierce thunderstorm and the electricity went out in the cabins we were staying in. Agnes and her sister Gretchen put on rain ponchos, and braved the wind ,rain and  lightning to go out and get everyone candles! It was quite a sight!

Agnes was always genuinely interested in what everyone was doing. She had a great sense of humor and I know she will be missed by many.

I'm so sorry for your loss Christina, your mother was the best, I loved her personality

Agnes was a wonderful, friendly, and truly incomparable person. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness and light. We are so sorry for your loss, Christina; you’re in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Please accept our deepest condolences and may God comfort you during this difficult time.

With love,

Allen and Lara

One of my favorite memories of Agnes is seeing her out enjoying the neighborhood on her walks. I’d spot her out on the streets, give her a big wave from my car, or stop for a chat if I was on foot. It seemed like every conversation ended with us laughing. She was sweet, hilarious, and just the right amount of saucy. I think if I had to choose one word to describe her I’d say that she was definitely a firecracker! :)

Agnes had a huge heart for our neighborhood, our city, and especially for the building she served as HOA president of for so many years. From the very first day I moved in over 20 years ago it felt like her presence was woven into the fabric of this place. I can’t imagine looking at our building, walking through our courtyard, and not feeling her spirit there. I will miss her.

I’m sending out so much love to you Christina.

Dear Christina,

Please accept our deepest condolences. May she rest in peace and be remembered by many…

Hugs

Irina and family

Dearest Christina,

We are deeply sorry for the loss of your wonderful Mom.

Aunt Agnes was and always will be a beautiful person inside and out.

May your memories of your Mom bring you comfort and tranquility. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Laurie, Rick and Hootie

My heart is breaking for you.   May you find peace during this difficult time.
I'll always remember Agnes for her kindness. She never failed to offer a warm smile and a compliment whenever we crossed paths in the courtyard. My deepest sympathies to her family.
