Annie (how I knew her before she asked to be known by her given name Aesta) was witty and kind and thoughtful. Years ago she sewed a denim apron for me; now putting it on feels like giving her a hug.  I thought of her often., as she confronted several challenging twists and turns in her life, I am sure she was proud of Andrew Jessamyn, and so pleased to be a grandmother.
We have had the pleasure of knowing the family for over thirty years and we are so saddened to learn of Aestas’ passing. She was a blessing in our lives. Clarke and Linda Houston

My condolences to Aesta's family. I first met Aesta when at DU Library school and we both made it to Libraryland! and we would often meet with others for breakfast or lunch to catch up . The conversations included family, events, plans and more, they were always fun. She will be missed

She was a very sweet person, so sorry to learn of her passing.

My memory of an encounter with her, just a couple years ago.

Out for a walk one day I came across Esta trying to get on the roof of the cabin, to clean off all the pine needles off the roof.  I greeted her and said I wasn’t leaving till she returned to the ground. She laughed and promptly got down. She was grateful to have someone willing to watch. Promised to hire someone to do the task. She invited me in for tea and a visit. She was a lovely person.

She will be missed in Pinecliffe community. May your memories hold you during this time of remembrance.

When I was a teenager realizing I was gay and wanting to find guidance through books at the library I took a couple months to study the library staff to see who was the safest person I could ask for help. I eventually settled on Aesta.

When I finally got up the courage to speak with her - I could tell she was surprised, but graciously so, and she found a binder full of LGBTQ+ titles walked around the teen area with me finding books.

Years later when we worked together at that same library I brought this up to her. She didn’t remember, but she laughed at the memory, gracious and kind as always, and made me feel seen and safe once again. Aesta was such a perfect library employee and an ally to me in a significant time of need. I love thinking of her. 💛
