Adam's obituary
Adam Richard Mitchell-Hardt, 41, passed away amid the beauty of the Remutaka Cycle Trail in Masterson, NZ on May 3rd, 2025. A Celebration of life service will be held at First Parish in Concord, MA on June 14th at 2p EDT.
Born on July 7th 1983 in Boston, MA, Adam joined what would become a big family and lived on a four acre horse farm filled with animals and activity. Adam was musical, taking to his piano lessons and later guitar, he also excelled academically. He attended Colgate University where he was part of the rowing team and Theta Chi Fraternity. After graduating in 2005 he commenced a corporate career that culminated in tech sales in San Francisco. It was there where he learned to surf, took up zen meditation, and built a vibrant community. While everyone has their own process of creating meaning in their lives, Adam took this quest of finding purpose and authentic connection with a particular gravity. As he transitioned away from the corporate world he started his own career coaching business aimed at helping people make career transitions that were in greater alignment with their purpose. After leaving California, he moved to Costa Rica where he built a rich community of like minded people focused on connection with nature and expanding self expression. Adam continued his love of surfing, meditation, and yoga. He deepened his creative capacities, honing his songwriting and performance skills and attended weekly ecstatic dance gatherings. As he built his business he courageously explored the world and continued the hard work of turning inward. This led him to iterate his offerings, which most recently focused on helping executives lead with soul and avoid burnout to create the kind of world we all want to live in. His adventurous spirit brought him to New Zealand, where, in the last few months of his life, he wrote a book that he hoped would support others through their own inward exploration and self discovery, a book that would share what he gleaned from his life's work.
Adam was survived by his parents Susan and David Mitchell-Hardt, his two brothers, Matt (Cathy) and Alex Mitchell-Hardt, and his sister Molly Mitchell-Hardt Field (Zachary). He is also survived by his nephews Hunter, Wyatt, Kai, and Roch.
Adam will be remembered for his bravery, curiosity, playfulness, sincerity, and kindness. Everyone who knew him felt touched by his depth and his heart, and many have since shared how one conversation with him changed their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dreamcatchers Foundation for children in Nosara, Costa Rica at dreamcatchercr.org, a cause close to Adam’s heart.
