Adam's obituary
Adam Dean Bearup, 45, of Golden, Colorado, died on Friday, August 23, 2024, during an early evening bike ride on South Table Mountain. He passed as the sun set on one of his most traveled trails, doing what he loved. Adam is survived by his wife, Lindsay, children Emery (9) and Asher (6), sister and brother-in-law Mike and Erin Quijano, mother Charmain and father Wayne Bearup, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Adam was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on March 30, 1979. He attended Mitchell High School, excelling in both academics and sports - swimming, football and ice hockey – and graduated in 1997. Adam continued swimming competitively, both at Junior Nationals and at the University of Wyoming where he majored in Mechanical Engineering, graduating in 2002.
After college, Adam moved to Reading, Pennsylvania, where he designed children’s products, such as car seats and highchairs. A very talented artist and engineer, Adam found his professional calling in blending the two disciplines. It was back east that Adam met Lindsay and they bonded over skiing, kayaking, and laughing together and with their friends. Adam would have told you he knew Lindsay was the one when she launched her sled so far off a jump she cleared the rest of the hill. It wasn’t long before they answered the call of Adam’s other lifelong love, the mountains of Colorado, where they were married in 2010.
Adam and Lindsay built their family in Golden CO, with two children, Emery and Asher. The young and active Bearup family always embraced the outdoors—camping, fishing, biking, and skiing. Adam never missed an opportunity to cheer on the kids' sports teams or help out at their school, Shelton Elementary. Adam was an irrepressible kid at heart, and having two of his own gave him an excuse to wrestle and play hockey in the living room. At times, Lindsay had two little ones and one big kid on her hands. Somehow, Adam missed the memo about having to grow up someday.
Always a family guy, Adam was close to his mother, Charmain; father, Wayne, and sister Erin (Bearup) Quijano. His mom balanced teaching school with home chores, providing sack lunches and home-cooked dinners. Also a teacher, Wayne nurtured Adam’s sports talents, and both parents were always on hand to cheer for their son. His love of the outdoors also came from his parents. From the time Adam was able to handle a fly rod, Adam had been fishing, hunting, and camping with his dad, and was a talented fly fisherman.
Adam and Erin were best friends, and routinely shared private stories and cherished experiences. They also shared a quirky sense of humor that others could never understand. With the same keen alertness to the comedies of life, the kindred-spirit siblings required but a second of eye contact to send them into uncontrollable laughter.
But God must have needed yet another beautiful soul on the other side. One with unbounded empathy for others. One who could easily strike up a conversation with a stranger, whether on the street or in an airport waiting line. One who made friends in an instant. One who exemplified love and happiness. So, without warning or drama, God called Adam home.
Those of us he left behind will miss him immensely, in body, but will forever feel his strong spirit embracing us.
