Aaron's obituary

Aaron John Scholl, 60, of St. Paul Park, MN., died November 13, 2023, following a two-and-a-half year battle against cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile ducts. He spent hospice at his mother’s home in Scottsdale, AZ, and passed away with his wife Marlo and mother Sherry present.

Born March 7, 1963, in Minneapolis to Sherry and Michael Scholl, Aaron lived in Minnesota until he was 16, then moved with his family to Scottsdale where he completed high school.

Aaron spoke fluent Spanish and visited over 30 different countries all over the world, either for work or pleasure. He attended the University of Minnesota and earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature. He spent a year in Seville, Spain, as part of his undergraduate program. He then attended graduate school in Arizona and earned a Master of Business Administration from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

After moving back to the Twin Cities, he married Karen and had three children he was very proud of: Nora, Gordon, and Martin.

Aaron worked at Cargill in a wide variety of positions, including commodity contract management, auditing, and customs. Following Cargill, he worked with Krypt, Inc. as a consultant, helping companies with supply chain execution and compliance. His final position was with CHS as a senior business analyst. Aaron was highly valued for his deep understanding of importing/exporting, and the complex software used to run these systems.

Aaron was decidedly “anti-theme-park” and took his family on many international vacations, preferring to give his kids authentic experiences and a chance to see the wider world. One such vacation was a houseboat trip down the Amazon River. His favorite places in the world included Seville, Portugal, New Zealand, and Nicaragua. He was an excellent cook and often tried and perfected recipes from the countries he visited, including Brazilian lasagna.

Aaron had a smart, dry sense of humor that delighted his wife, Marlo. They met each other in October 2017 and married in April 2023. Aaron and Marlo were able to travel together, including a Mexico/Panama Canal cruise that featured SCUBA diving, among other fun adventures. They also visited the U.K. after his cancer diagnosis to meet Aaron’s first grandchild, followed by a few days in Paris. Although they were only together for six years, Marlo is grateful to have been loved by Aaron.

Aaron is survived by his wife Marlo Teal; children Nora (Carl) Hinton, Gordon Scholl, and Martin Scholl; mother Sherry Blanchard Stuart; father Mike Scholl; stepmother Chris Gillespie Scholl; siblings Ross (Joy) Stuart, Janel (Tom) Lewandowski, Brenna (Ryan) Rentmeester; granddaughters Harriet and Hazel. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Roy O. Stuart.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 23 at 5 p.m. at Royal Cliff Banquet & Conference Center, 2280 Cliff Rd. Eagan, MN 55122.  A lasagna buffet dinner will be served and there will be a short program honoring Aaron. Flowers may be sent to the venue after 11 a.m. that day, or memorial donations may be made in Aaron’s name to The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at cholangiocarcinoma.org.
