  • Does Houston Hospice provide care for patients without insurance?

Yes, Houston Hospice accepts patients who do not have insurance. Through our **Charity Care Program**, we provide compassionate end-of-life care to uninsured or underinsured individuals, ensuring that no one is turned away due to financial hardship. Our mission is to serve all patients with dignity, regardless of their ability to pay.

  • What resources do you offer patients and families beyond basic care?

In addition to expert medical care, Houston Hospice provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support for both patients and their families. Services include counseling, chaplain visits, volunteer companionship, and specialized programs like pediatric and veteran care. • What makes you stand out from other hospices?

What makes Houston Hospice stand out is its nonprofit mission, commitment to serve all patients regardless of ability to pay, and deeply personalized approach to care. We’re the only nonprofit hospice in the Texas Medical Center, providing expert, interdisciplinary support through a full team of clinicians, chaplains, social workers, volunteers, and bereavement counselors. With over 40 years of service, our care goes beyond medical—it's heart-led, community-rooted, and focused on dignity, comfort, and meaningful moments for both patients and their families.

  • What does care look like for the average patient?

At Houston Hospice, each patient receives personalized, compassionate care from a dedicated team including doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides, and volunteers. Whether at home, in a facility, or at our inpatient unit, we focus on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. We also care for families, offering emotional, spiritual, and bereavement support. Our teams are available 24/7, ensuring no one faces the end-of-life journey alone.

  • What is your patient care philosophy?

Houston Hospice cares for both patients and their families with heart, especially during life’s most difficult moments.

Our team—physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides, volunteers, and grief counselors—provides support wherever it’s needed: at home, in assisted living, or other care settings. We meet patients where they are, because at Houston Hospice, life matters.

  • What is the history of your hospice?

Houston Hospice was founded in 1980 by a group of visionary healthcare professionals who recognized the need for compassionate end-of-life care in the Greater Houston area. As the city’s first nonprofit hospice, Houston Hospice has remained dedicated to serving patients and their families regardless of age, background, or ability to pay.
Houston Hospice has grown into a regional leader in hospice and palliative care, now serving 13 counties across Southeast Texas. In 2001, Houston Hospice moved into the historic Holcombe House, a peaceful inpatient facility that provides around-the-clock care in a homelike setting.
In addition to inpatient care, Houston Hospice has experienced medical teams that deliver hospice services directly to patients in their homes, assisted living facilities, and retirement communities—wherever care is needed.
As a proud member of the Texas Medical Center, Houston Hospice continues its mission to provide uncompromising, compassionate care to those facing life-limiting illnesses—always with dignity, respect, and heart.
