Overview from the hospice

Bridges was founded by a nurse, who currently still owns and is an active part of the company. We are not a nationwide organization but local and homegrown. No one is a number in our system. The Bridges culture is one that understands every patient and family has unique preferences, values, and needs. It is important to us that we offer respectful and responsive care that not only meets but exceeds all expectations. Every hospice patient receives exceptional, supportive care provided by a compassionate team that consists of a nurse, home health aide, social worker, and chaplin.

Frequently asked questions

Answered by Bridges Hospice

  • What makes you stand out from other hospices?

Bridges recognizes the importance of being present and offering additional support when patients are entering the final phase of the dying process. Those on our Bridge Program receive additional visits tailored specifically to the needs of the patients and families. Although there is never a set number of visits one can receive, on average a patient will receive an additional two to four visits each day. These visits, provided by nurses, home health aides, social workers, and counselors are utilized for care needs, to ensure comfort, and provide support to the patient and family during this difficult time.

We also recognize that being present and offering additional support is important every day, not just during a time of crisis. Our Additional Support Program is an added enhancement to our after hours, on-call team and our Bridges Program. Bridges recognizes that patients, families, and facilities may benefit from an afternoon or evening visit for a variety of reasons, other than emergencies that our handled by our dedicated team of on call nurses.

  • What does care look like for the average patient?

Every hospice patients receives a care team that consists of a nurse, a home health aide, a social, and a Chaplin. We base our visits off patients and families individualized needs. Our nurses visit as often as necessary and are available even off hours for emergencies and support. Recognizing that caregiving is difficult for many families, Bridges Hospice offers a home health to all of our patients 5 days a week.

  • What is your patient care philosophy?

No one is a number in our system. The Bridges culture is one that understands every patient and family has unique preferences, values, and needs. It is important to us that we offer respectful and responsive care that not only meets but exceeds all expectations.

  • What is the history of your hospice?

Krista Cox, RN founded Bridges Hospice on April 1, 2011. Krista recognized the need for additional support, visit frequency, and care for patients with a life limiting illness. Krista started the business with a very small office in Penn Trafford, PA. Our exceptional care is well recognized by the community and has resulted in tremendous growth of our organization. In April 2021, for the first time, we purchased a building in Monroeville which is now the home of Bridges Hospice.
