My husband was there for rehab. While there, he developed severe edema that resulted in cellulitis, a week after discharge.
My husband has multiple health issues. One of the side effects is development of swelling in his lower legs. Before the incident at Greenwood House, his edema had been under control for at least 6 weeks. Under the care of his doctors, we controlled that by restricting salt in his diet and through exercise. When he was hospitalized that time and then when he went to Greenwood House, there was no swelling. At Greenwood House, he developed severe edema. It was caused either by salt in the food he was given, or because he was not given enough exercise. The nurse did not notify me about the swelling until it was severe. At that point, the only thing that would help was intravenous doses of diuretic. Because I am not a dr, she ignored me. The oral doses of diuretic reduced the swelling a little, but not enough. When I contacted an administrator to tell her that the edema had turned into cellulitis, she reviewed my husband's chart and then told me that they had done everything properly. Without knowing my husband, or his history, she told me that he was prone to cellulitis. She acted as if it were nothing important.
I had previously heard good things about Greenwood House. Apparently not all patients there receive the same level of care. I have no idea on what it depends. But if your relative happens to be one that they deem is "likely" to develop complications and choose not to pay attention to problems, then, BEWARE,

Greenwood House Hospice & GW Home Nursing jumped into action immediately, and moved mountains to get our mother home, where she wanted to be when she passed. Jonel was a TIGER to get us the help and support we needed, and Diane (on the nursing side) moved more mountains to get us a live-in caretaker for those final few days. This was a difficult, emotional time, and these two women propped us up and did everything possible to make our mom's final wishes come true, all the while going out of their way to support me and our family. These are the kind of women we all need in this kind of situation. Strong women get it done!! We can't thank them enough!

Greenwood House is a wonderful place for my 88 year old Mom who needs lots of nursing care. Every time I visit, my Mom looks great and is well taken care of by the Greenwood House staff. The staff is made up of people who truly care. They go the extra mile! A word of praise for the cleanliness of the facility. Kudos to those who prepare the delicious meals.
I would recommend Greenwood House to anyone who is in need of excellent nursing care.

My mother has been at Greenwood House for over a year and the care she is receiving is exceptional. The food is plentiful and delicious. The facility is very clean. The caregivers and staff are always willing to help out not only my mother but our family as well. She has been at several other communities and this truly is the best. I would recommend it to anyone that needs nursing care.
