Overview from the funeral home

We would like to humbly introduce our Funeral Home to the community. We are eCare Mortuary. This new business, operating in Lewis County and Thurston County, was conceived when a local mortician saw nothing dignified about predatory overcharging of grieving families. eCare Mortuary Founder, Diane Achord, has over 15 years of experience in death care. This woman decided to be the change she wished to see within other, more corporate, funeral organizations. eCare Mortuary was founded on ethical principles of price transparency, open communication with free-flowing information for families, and authentic care when it matters most.

Frequently asked questions

Answered by eCare Mortuary

  • What is the history of eCare Mortuary?

eCare Mortuary is a new business, operating in Lewis County and Thurston County, was conceived when a local mortician saw nothing dignified about predatory overcharging of grieving families. Diane Achord decided to be the change she wished to see within other, more corporate, funeral organizations. eCare Mortuary was founded on ethical principles of price transparency, open communication with free-flowing information for families, and authentic care when it matters most.

  • Who are the key people at eCare Mortuary?

Diane Achord, Founder & Managing Director.

  • What is the funeral planning process generally like?

Our model is of an online/concierge service.

We use an Online Arranger system, allowing a family to look through all of our options and services from a home computer or mobile device. All pricing is displayed for the user so they may choose exactly what service they want and track their budget all without any sales pressure. We always have staff local and available for fast responses when a family needs us and happily meet with families in their home for in-person arrangements or to release cremated remains.

We also utilized shared co-working spaces for situations in which a family does wish to meet in person, but not in their home. Using rented, shared offices allows us to keep both our costs for families and our carbon footprint down.

  • Are there specific types of funerals that you specialize in?

    Direct Cremation
    Water Cremation
    Private Viewing & Cremation
    Immediate Burial
    Home Funeral
    Graveside Service
    Traditional Funeral

  • What makes you different from other funeral homes?

We wish to foster healthy grief processes which have been lost to today's culture, and to never run a ‘production line’ version of aftercare for the deceased. We offer services from Traditional Burial to Direct Cremation, and At-Home Funerals to Aquamation. We believe in cultural, religious, and individual uniqueness and support every inventive process to care for loved-ones, thus supporting healthy grief processes for families. The traditional funeral home model has become one of shut doors and closed curtains, but eCare is embracing honesty and transparency.

We are thrilled to share any information about our process with a family and our Morticians never stop being the person a family can come to. We welcome continued communication and education well after services have been rendered and present each of our families with multiple aftercare grief resources so they may feel their loss, understand it, and move forward in health.
