What is the history of Hultgren Funeral Home and Cremation Services?
In 1943, Paul Hanerhoff purchased the funeral home from the Young family and moved to our current location. He eventually removed three homes to build our current Wheaton building. After he passed away in 1976, Vern Hultgren purchased the business and moved his family into the apartment upstairs. In the 1990's, Tim Hultgren purchased the business. Together with his wife, Susan, they have completely remodeled the facility over the past two years. In the spring of 2022, Hultgren Funeral Home and Cremation Center will open in Carol Stream.

Who are the key people at Hultgren Funeral Home and Cremation Services?
Tim and Susan Hultgren are the owners.
Tim Hultgren has been a funeral director for almost 40 years and the second generation owner for 25 years.
Susan Dyer Hultgren is a funeral director and funeral profession educator. She is currently President of the Cook County Funeral Directors Association.
Brad Aardema is the managing funeral director. He and his wife and four children live in Wheaton.
Abi Davoust is a funeral director. She has been a part of the funeral home family for over 10 years. She and her husband and two young daughters live in Wheaton.
Darcy Kolschefski has worked for over 15 years as our full-time preneed director. He and his wife live in Wheaton.
Matthew Praznowski is currently a full-time intern.
Vern and Joanne Hultgren are fully retired but are often seen helping at the funeral home. -
What is the funeral planning process generally like?
We are available 24/7. Our team is prepared to take your loved one into our care at any time. At your convenience, we will meet with the decision-makers at the funeral home or your home. During that meeting, we will listen to you and help you develop plans for honoring and remembering. You will never be surprised by added costs.
