Frequently asked questions

Answered by Rachel Loreto

  • How much experience do you have in your field?

I’ve walked with several clients and my own family members who have completed their lives utilizing Medical Aid in Dying. I’ve answered inquiries from hundreds of people who are considering Medical Aid in Dying and am well versed in the laws allowing clients to access Medical Aid in Dying in both Vermont and Washington, DC. I volunteer with Patient Choices Vermont, Montgomery and Prince George’s Hospice and sit on the board of End of Life Options DC. I am a trained End of Life Doula through the University of Vermont’s End Of Life Doula Professional Certificate program and through the international End of Life Doula Association (INELDA.) I am also a member of the National End of Life Doula Alliance, the Hospice Federation of America and The National Association of Social Workers. I am always working to further my education and am currently a part of the and the Academy of Aid in Dying Medicine Doulas mentorship program and INELDA’s pilot year long program for End of Life Doula Certification.

  • What is your fee structure and pricing?

The fee structure is really dependent upon each client’s unique needs. It depends upon a multitude of factors, including if the client needs housing, help finding a caregiver, help enrolling in hospice, transportation arrangements, medical equipment and many more variables. For your planning purposes, my rate generally works out to be about $85/hour. Once we’ve discussed your plans, I will provide a quote and contract.

  • What can families expect when working with you?

I’ve been through Medical Aid in Dying as a family member, so I understand the challenges in navigating this path - both logistically, and also emotionally. I am a trained Licensed Master Social Worker and have experience working with people from many different backgrounds. Each client brings a unique lived experience and I am curious to find out more about their perspectives and preferences. I want my clients to tell me what is important to them so that, to the extent possible, I can to help them to find their way to an empowered death - one in which they are able to exercise some choice and some control. I am passionate about this work and the right of people who are eligible, to have access to it. I will guide and support you and your family with compassion, kindness, knowledge and experience.

  • What services do you specialize in?

All aspects of considering, planning for and completing Medical Aid in Dying in Vermont and Washington, DC.
