Hi Jane,
My name is Roberta Goode, Regional Director at Florida Death with Dignity. Our mission is to educate the public and legislators about giving mentally capable adults with a terminal illness the right to another end of life choice, namely medical aid in dying. We've worked hard these past two years to write the Florida End Of Life Options Act, and we have this bill filed in both the House and Senate this session. We appreciate the valuable service doulas provide to patients and their families at the end of life. We have several members who are death doulas, and we're planning to create a death doula group within our membership. If you'd like to join us, please let me know.
For now, I'd like to let you know about a few upcoming events and opportunities that may interest you:
1. April 8th @ 2pm -- film screening "Jack Has A Plan" at the Sleeping Giant Film Festival, Sun-Ray cinema in Jacksonville. The film documents the journey of Jack, who has a brain tumor, as he uses medical aid in dying to end his life peacefully. This film has been shown at over 30 film festivals across the US, and has won numerous awards. The founders of our Florida Death with Dignity have been invited to join the film's director for a discussion panel after the screening. We always enjoy insights from the death doulas who have attended such screenings previously, and we invite you to join us! 2. Members of our non-profit group love to educate Floridians about Medical Aid in Dying. We're available to give presentations to groups small and large who have an interest in learning more.
3. The credibility of a death doula can't be ignored. You are experts in patient experiences as fellow humans approach and transition into death. If you would be comfortable emailing us a brief statement of your support that we can post on our Facebook page, we'd be very appreciative. In return, we'll post a Facebook link to your website to promote your services.
