About Desert Doula Lauren
Desert Doula Lauren is an alternative, holistic start-up based in Joshua Tree, California, offering compassionate end-of-life support for both people and companion animals. Aiming to fill the gap between the medical system and dying being a highly personal human experience, I strive to provide emotional and spiritual support during the end-of-life journey, educating clients and empowering them and their families to embrace the transition with grace and understanding. We are not taught in our current culture how to deal with death and dying or what the natural process looks like. I believe that if I can help people understand what this process looks like and what to expect through the end-of-life journey that loved ones can be more prepared when the time comes, allowing them to be more present in those precious final moments. My philosophy is to make the transition from life to death less difficult and more meaningful to those going through this time of transformation and transition.
I am extremely passionate about eco-friendly death care alternatives and love talking to people about these planet friendly options! Natural burial, water cremation and human composting are all options we have now. Choosing to help the planet as our last act here on earth has been proven to give meaning and bring joy in an otherwise sad and confusing time.
I am also a supporter of people wanting to choose Medical Aid in Dying and can help people navigate this option. I understand that this can be an often isolating and difficult topic to bring up to loved ones, as this is a very new and often misunderstood choice. I will be there to support you in any way you need if this is the best choice for you and your journey.

Frequently asked questions
Answered by Desert Doula Lauren
-
How much experience do you have in your field?
I have had extensive experience in the service industry over the last 18 years which has given me a wealth of knowledge about human-to-human interactions. Throughout my career, I have cultivated lasting friendships with my customers, coworkers, and bosses. Within the last 12 years, I have also worked closely with animals, big and small. Guiding trails on horseback into Joshua Tree National Park, assisting our local vet with house calls, and caring for my animals over the years have taught me many invaluable lessons about myself and the human-animal bond. I discovered an innate ability to hold space for people and animals during the difficult time of euthanasia. My purpose is to do this work, to help people and animals in their end-of-life journeys.
