About Pura Vida Eastern Wellness
Amanda Podany is the owner of Pura Vida Eastern Wellness
A CAPPA-Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, Lactation Educator and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, well-versed in treating fertility issues, mindfulness in pregnancy, peaceful and supportive childbirth and rejuvenating postpartum recovery through the use of acupressure, prenatal and pediatric massage and herbal nutrition.
In addition to birth work, I also serve as a death doula, or “soul midwife,” offering compassionate, grounded support to individuals and families navigating end-of-life transitions. This work is deeply informed by my own near-death experience during military service, allowing me to hold space with presence, empathy, and a profound respect for the full cycle of life.
Alongside this work, at The Bohemian Farmstead, I live this cycle daily—welcoming new life into the world through kidding season, while also experiencing the reality of loss within my own herd. These moments have deepened my understanding of both joy and grief, reinforcing the importance of presence, reverence, and gentle support during life’s most sacred transitions.
I am also an author, with multiple titles available on Amazon that explore themes of consciousness, birth, transformation, and the deeper human experience—extending this work beyond hands-on care into education, reflection, and personal awakening.
Helping AZ families have physically empowering pregnancies, childbirth and postpartum recovery since 2016. Pura Vida uses the three critical elements of physical empowerment to achieve that: Holistic self-care, movement and awareness.
Why Pura Vida?
The name “Pura Vida” signifies a relaxed attitude towards life, including its ups and downs, and an easy-going nature. With the help of a doula, this is the type of approach we would like all friends on this Earth.

How much experience do you have in your field?
I have been supporting families as a birth and postpartum doula since 2016, providing care through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period with a focus on physical, emotional, and mindful support.
In addition to my professional training, my work as a Soul Midwife and Death Doula is deeply informed by both experience and lived perspective. My time in the military, including a personal near-death experience, profoundly shaped how I understand presence, resilience, and the human transition process.
Through my work at The Bohemian Farmstead, I also experience the full cycle of life firsthand—welcoming new life into the world and navigating loss within my own herd. These experiences have strengthened my ability to hold space with compassion, steadiness, and respect for both joy and grief.
Altogether, I bring nearly a decade of hands-on experience, combined with a deeply grounded, intuitive approach to supporting individuals and families through life’s most significant transitions.

What can families expect when working with you?
Families can expect a calm, compassionate, and deeply present space where they feel supported, informed, and never alone. I meet each family exactly where they are—emotionally, spiritually, and practically—offering guidance without judgment and support without pressure.
As a Soul Midwife and Death Doula, I help create an environment of peace and dignity, whether that means sitting quietly at the bedside, guiding gentle breathwork, explaining what to expect during the dying process, or simply holding space for emotions as they arise.
I support both the individual and their loved ones—helping families feel more confident, connected, and at ease during a time that can otherwise feel overwhelming. Together, we focus on presence, comfort, and honoring the unique journey of each person.
Above all, families can expect to feel held, respected, and supported through every step of the transition, with care that is intuitive, grounded, and deeply human.
