The day of his untimely death, my sister in law called the facility to get information and schedule an appointment for the family. Peggy, the woman we were referred to, was very short, impatient, and she acted as if the phone call, and our loss, were an inconvenience to her. When my sister in law called back later to confirm our appointment, Peggy had the same ugly attitude. She made it clear that she did not want to waste her time speaking with us. Due to the phone calls, we were reluctant to attend the meeting, and when we arrived, Peggy exceeded our expectations of pure, inconsiderate, treatment. We arrived at our appointment 15 minutes early. Upon arrival, we walked into the office and apologized for being early and said we didn’t mind waiting. She rudely snapped and said, “yeah, your appointment isn’t until noon. You’re VERY early and you’re going to have to wait. I’m trying to pay bills right now.” She did not greet us, she didn’t even look up at us. Did not invite us to sit and wait, did not care at all that we were there. We had already apologized for our earliness, and Peggy’s abrasive response was shocking. She was not warm and welcoming. I asked her if there was a restroom available and she said there was a restroom around back (she didn’t even look at me to respond to my question). As we went on the trek to find the restroom, we discovered it was not a restroom at all. It was a honey bucket around the back of their building.
The office was stinky and muggy. There was trash all over and you can tell they do not take pride in cleanliness. While we were waiting, another man walked into the office and asked if someone could help him locate a gravesite of a loved one. The man he asked rolled his eyes and said “um, I can look really quick, but it has to be fast.” He acted as if that man, who wanted to visit the grave of a loved one, was an inconvenience. As we sat and waited, Peggy did not look at us, did not make small talk of any kind, didn’t give a crap that we were there. Her demeanor and attitude reeked of toxicity and created a thick, heavy atmosphere of negativity that was too hard for any of us to stand. We made the decision to move on as we did not want to associate the burial of our loved one with this despicable woman.
If you are grieving, do not go to Hillcrest. Our wounds are raw and fresh, and this experience poured salt on those wounds.

Peggy, the career path you have chosen is one that requires compassion, empathy, patience and courtesy. You are in the grief business. You are in the death business. You are required to interact with grieving families who are going through absolute nightmares. Your awful treatment of my family was absolutely vile and worsened our grief. We walked into your office with sore, heavy hearts, and left with our emotions even heavier, feeling empty and helpless. I request that you remove yourself from this business and allow someone with a kind heart who is well versed in being a decent human being to take your position. I will NEVER consider Hillcrest as a burial site for any of my family members.

I am so so thankful for the cemetery in Auburn that took us under their wing, welcomed us with love and compassion, and made sure we were well taken care of. Read less
