Established in 1863 and covering over 120 acres, this cemetery's significance lies in its historical relevance. It is preserved and managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and houses the final resting place of more than 50,000 American heroes, many of whom served during key events in American history like the Civil War, Spanish American War, World War I & II, and the Vietnam War. Notable features on the grounds include the Andrews Raiders Monument, erected in 1890 to commemorate an 1862 Civil War military action, and several other memorials dedicated to various branches of military service.
