Q&A

I am trying to find my granfather, Clement E Smith that was buried in Sunset in 1973. My uncle, Marshall Smith is also buried there in 1945 and my grandmother, Meryl Day Smith in 1947. Where is there plot? – Lisa Smith S.

Hi Lisa, It appears we have a Clement E. Smith at Sunset, however, we have his date of death listed as 1967, so I'm not sure it's actually your grandfather. Marshall D. Smith is here too, but his date of death is 1948. We don't, unfortunately, have a Meryl Day Smith listed. Do you know if this is her legal name or if she went by something else?
DO YOU BUY BACK PLOTS THAT WERE INHERITED BY A DAUGHTER WHO NO LONGER LIVES IN MN – Ronald O.

Sorry, Ronald, we do not buy back plots. They can be transferred to other family members, donated to charity or sold on sites like Craigslist. You could give us a call at 612-789-3596 if you'd like to discuss further.
Although they passed away in different years, both of my parents were cremated and so were allowed to be buried in the same plot at your cemetery which was much appreciated. (Theodore (Donald) and Marguerite (Amelia) Wallace. The adjacent unused gravesite was given to me, their daughter. I am now over 80 years old with no "children" and may need the gravesite soon . I hope I can find the papers or "deed" for the unused site. If not, what can I do to "transfer" ownership of the extra gravesite into my name-if I can even find any paperwork? My sister who is still living but living in Arizona could have something written and notarized that she has had knowledge of and agreed with the situation (i.e. the "transfer" of ownership of the second unused grave. I will watch for your reply. Thank you. – Karen M.

Hi Sunset, My mother bought 4 plots back in the late 70's or early 80's. My father remarried and now him and my stepmother are deceased. Three of those plots are now taken with my dad, Mom, and brother. My stepmother is buried somewhere else. I am the only remaining one in my family and I would like to be buried with them! What do I have to do to get my plot that my Mother bought for us? Names of family are Ronald Gieser, Joyce Gieser, and Gary Gieser all in block 3. – Craig G.

An ancestor is buried in Sunset. Mary Sweeney born 1874, died 1935. Her husband Hugh Sweeney is likely buried beside her, born ~1860, died between 1920-1930. Is there a picture of their gravestones? Or any details that can be provided. Thank you. Marie Sweeney, Chicago – Marie S.
