What is the history of Oakview Cemetery?
Founded in 1911, Oakview Cemetery features a captivating landscape in a park-like setting on 94 acres. At more than a century-old, Oakview holds much of the history of Royal Oak and surrounding area within its borders. At the front entrance is a plaque marking where the oak tree, which is the City of Royal Oak’s namesake, once stood. The Royal Oak tree is also the namesake of the cemetery itself. The cemetery’s founders later planted a tree and that is the one which still stands at the front entrance today.
