Writing an obituary for a father is a deeply personal and meaningful task, as it honors his life and the impact he had on family, friends, and the world around him. Here’s a guide to help you write a heartfelt and fitting tribute:

  1. Begin with basic information: Start by introducing your father’s full name, age, and place of passing, along with the date of his passing.

He was a man of strong faith and he taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right.

Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to. The funeral service will be held at Green Valley Country Club on May 18th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ASPCA.

Father, you are now at peace but you will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace.

Obituary poems for a father

Having an obituary with poems or quotes included is certainly not uncommon – sometimes it’s a favorite quote or saying the deceased would often repeat, a favorite poem that they particularly enjoyed, or a poem that the family decided summed up their feelings. Whatever the reason, poems are a beautiful way to remember someone who has passed away. If you’re looking for some obituary poems or sayings for a father who has passed, here are some great options:

Happy the Man, by John Dryden

"Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.
Be fair or foul or rain or shine
The joys I have possessed, in spite of fate, are mine.
Not Heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour."

He is Gone, by David Harkins

“You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all he's left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday."

A Poem for Dad, by J. Allen Shaw

“Dad, I am often told I am just like you.
I am honored beyond measure if that is true.
You were the best example of what a man should be.
I am overwhelmed that someone would say that of me.
I never told you enough, how proud I am to be called your son,
Now that you are gone, I want to tell everyone.
You gave me much more than a name,
Someday, I hope my son says the same.”

Eternal Love, by Alan Owen

“The blue skies turn to grey.
No more stories.
You've gone away.
The echoes of your smile,
Your kindness, your love.
Everything that made life worthwhile
Crashed down like a dove.
But memories will never fade.
Like a light that guides me,
Your love, your beauty
Will always find me.”
