How you can help
Zubie was born in East Timor, Indonesia to an Indonesian mother and Indian father. During the 1940s, the local Timorese population suffered immense losses due to the Japanese occupation, suffering from starvation, disease, forced labor, and air raids, leading to an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 deaths. To escape this, her family moved to India, where they once again endured another occupation. The 1947 partition of India and Pakistan, triggered by the end of British rule, caused one of history's most brutal humanitarian crises. Approximately 15 million people were displaced, and between 1 and 2 million died during sectarian violence. Millions lost their homes, including my mother, families were torn apart, and refugees faced widespread disease, hunger, and attacks, particularly in Punjab where my mother resided (Julundhar). Even though there are many crises in worlld, food and medicien are the most important ways people can help. This cause would have been meaningful to Zubie as she and her family endured similar crisis.
