Zodiac's obituary

Our Zodiac passed peacefully at 5:50 pm on September 27, 2023 under the care of the amazing Dr. Carey at Zion Veterinary Hospital. We lovingly called him ZoZo, Zo, and Squirrel (for his bushy tail). Zodiac was, unfortunately, in severe renal failure and we chose to help him across the Rainbow Bridge in the arms of his brother.

Zo was adopted in July of 2008, when his (human) mom was pregnant. It all started with an apartment and the neighbor having a kitten and thinking “we should have one too”. Who knew that a “craving” while pregnant was adopting a kitten, but my ex husband and I were optimistic 20 year olds and set sights on raising a kitten and a baby. Zodiac was an adorable kitten with the original name “Cowboy”. He was a spitting image of his mom.

While his new human baby brother spent days drinking bottles, Zodiac chose to spend his kitten-hood interning as Spiderman by climbing up curtains. Sadly, he never did follow through, beyond climbing curtains and pant legs, and chose to spend his days trying to sleep on his moms face at night, fetch scrunchies like a weird catdog, and loved this one unique game. You would tease Zodiac and he would charge you and jump at you. The goal was to catch him and then he would repeat it. If you didnt catch him, it was a fun wrestling game with a fully clawed mini tiger. Sometimes Zo would even cosplay as a rooster and meow at 3am until the world acknowledged him. He was a feline of many talents.

Zo was a determined cat. He was indoors and outdoors and if you didn’t let him out, he would help you do laundry Zo-Style… by peeing on any clothes near the floor. Aside from his unwavering dedication to revenge, he was loyal and a velcro cat at times. He would follow me to the mailbox, loved to climb trees, cuddle with his brother, and the neighbors (in any apt or house I lived) all loved to pet him and admire his bushy tail.

Zodiac has been there through his mom’s entire adult life and his human brother’s entire life. He was there through 8 moves, including 2 that were 7 hour drives, and was always by our side. He was an absolutely incredible, affectionate, playful, and smart cat.

His last few weeks he spent enjoying the sunshine on the back patio. He is survived by his human brother Karl, his human mama Charlie, his canine sister Delta (who he’s probably glad to be away from), his feline sister Galaxy, and his Four Ferret brothers; Swirl, Nubi, Ares, and Zero; and so so loved by many.

We can’t have imagined life without him. He was a rock in my life and someone who cuddled with me most nights.  Words can’t ever describe 15 years of unconditional love for the cutest menace on the planet. The empty spot on my pillow will forever be yours, ZoZo
