Zina's obituary

We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to announce the unfortunate passing of Zina Mikkelson on December 31, 2025. Born on November 23, 1973, Zina lived a life full of love, courage, and strength. The memories she leaves behind are engulfed by the love and happiness she tried to put into this world. She will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Whether that was for years or just a few moments . She left that type of impact on you . Even on her worst days she found a way to joke and smile and try her best to always keep one foot in front of the other.

Zina is survived by her sons, Nicholas Mikkelson, Keenan Scott, and Jerry Burns; her nephews, James Freeman, Mic-Ryan Freeman, and Nathan Mikkelson; her nieces, Holly Nelson, Ashley Freeman, Heaven Myatt, Chelsey Myatt, Hailey Mikkelson, Chasity Mikkelson, Serena Mikkelson and Deanna Mikkelson; and her brother, Shann Mikkelson.

She was predeceased by her mother, Linda Mikkelson; her sisters, Christie and Katherine Mikkelson; her brother Jimmy Mikkelson; and her daughter, Jerica Burns.

Zina was a woman of fierce spirit and undying strength. Known for her love, bravery, and fierceness that she had to get from her mother. Zina had the ability to push forward through all circumstances in life , a lot of circumstances that would have shattered the feebler. We know she loved her Hush puppies, Mountain Dew, and she also loved her some Tim McGraw. But she also loved her family deeply and wanted nothing more than to build a good life for her kids.

With activities like watching the show Days of Our Lives and rooting for the good ole’ Tennessee Titans and Steve McNair .  She found her happiness in simple things. As a youth she cherished her time playing softball and growing with her siblings and family & extended family .

Zina was a testament to courage in the face of adversity. Her favorite lesson to share was to never give up and keep pushing through life's challenges.

“If there is a will, there is a way.”

“Things will get better.” Something she always instilled in the people she loved and knew.

The strength she displayed until her final day was nothing short of inspiring. Even though cancer took its course, she stood tall and faced death with unwavering courage.

In her passing, we are reminded of the fierce love she had for her family, the unwavering strength she displayed throughout her life, and the lasting impact she had on everyone around her. Zina Mikkelson will be deeply missed by all.

Until we see you again <3
