Zelra's obituary
We celebrate the life and legacy of Zelra Lee Mcneal, whom ascended February 11, 2024. Born on April 22, 1931, Zelra graced the Earth with her presence for more than 9 decades. She left us with memories that are ingrained with love, wisdom, and a unique character that will forever be remembered.
Zelra was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Mcneal, who held an irreplaceable spot in her heart. Surviving Zelra are her grateful children, Zachary McNeal , Patricia Hughes, Judie Kenard and Angela Mcneal; her beloved grandchildren, Arnold Kenard, Robert Hughes III, Seth Hughes, Rasheem Hopton, Leabre Mcneal, Zoe Mcneal, Brandy Williams, and , and a host of In-laws, cousins, family and friends.
Zelra had an appreciation for the simple joys in life. Her palette savored the unique taste of "snoots," and the Peach Cobbler? ELITE. Her favorite TV shows, in order, were Wheel of Fortune, news, and Powerball, and her passion for art was expressed in her love for Bobby Blue Bland and Johnnie Taylor. However, as many who knew her might attest, her fandom for Johnnie Taylor was quite "aggressive".
Her favorite pastime activity was listening to the Blues, a melody that resonated with her soul. Zelra was not one to sit idle and took delight in "getting out there in the yard" as a preferred activity. Her choice of vacation spot was the tranquil city of Denver and had a particular affection for the color green.
Zelra was wise, deliberate, stubborn, and loving; a rare combination of traits that painted the vivid canvas of her personality. Despite her various achievements, she considered her enduring legacy as her greatest accomplishment.
Her legacy of generosity and level-headedness is what defines her. Her enduring love, wisdom, and strength will continue to live through her family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Zelra's journey on Earth was a testament to the notion of longevity being ascribed to the well deserved. As we mourn her, we celebrate a long life well-lived.
When I think of Zelra and Louis Mcneal I see them in a real setting, together. Sitting a broad front porch. I can smell the BBQ cooking, the Blues playing in the background against the faint sound of the wind at sunset. I can see her face looking back at me, as she affirms a life-long sentiment, "You be Doggone good."
