Zartia's obituary
Zartia Cyzette Berry was born on August 3, 1964, at DC General Hospital in Washington, DC, to Harvey and Janice Berry. On November 26, 2025, she peacefully fell asleep, closing a life and chapter filled with love, resilience, laughter, and devotion to family.
Zartia was educated in the District of Columbia and graduated from Ballou Senior High School in 1982, where she served on the ROTC program. She went on to dedicate a few years of service through her work as a DC Government contractor. As a manager at McDonalds in 1994, she developed a love for people and service. She also worked as a lottery operator at Tiger Market in her Southeast Washington, DC community, and later as a Deli Manager at Fresh Market grocery chain in Vienna, Virginia, where her strong work ethic and personable nature were evident to all she encountered.
Above all else, Zartia was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was blessed with two sons, Brandon “Bran-Bran”, and Reginald “Reggie”. She shared a special and enduring bond with her boys, maintaining a loving relationship with them from childhood through adulthood despite life’s many twists and turns. She was also blessed with a beloved daughter-in-love, Ashley Berry, whom she cherished as a real daughter.
Zartia found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren: Alanna, Bria, Ian, and Legend. Whether laughing, dancing, playing board games, cooking, or sharing jokes, she treasured every moment with them.
She had a love for R&B music, enjoyed dancing, watching murder mysteries, learning new things on YouTube, and filling rooms with laughter through her humor.
Her personality was warm, witty, and unforgettable.
Zartia was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Washington, DC, in 1970. In 2014, she reaffirmed her faith by praying the prayer of salvation. She shared decades of companionship and friendship with her loving partner, Terrance “TBone” Saunders, whose presence was a steady source of love and support throughout her life.
Zartia was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Janice Berry; her sister, Sandra “Renay” Berry; and her brother, Eric Berry.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Brandon Berry and Reginald Berry (Ashley); her special companion, Terrance Saunders; her dear and only living sister, Audrey Berry-Gross; her grandchildren; Alanna Berry, Bria Berry, Ian Berry, and Legend Berry; her nieces Valerie Locke, and Janay Gross; and nephews Jerrell Gross, and Tyler Berry; her great-nieces and nephews Jason Locke Jr. , Jaden Locke, Megan Locke, and Jazzmirra Gross; bonus children Naquesha Booker, LaTeasia Rhodes, and Terry Flowers; a bonus grand-daughter, Jazmynn Bailey; along with a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Zartia Cyzette Berry, aka “Porky” will be remembered for her strength, her humor, her love for family, and the joy she brought to all the lives she touched.
