Zachary Thomas Rooney

1997 – 2025

Zachary Thomas Rooney, 28, of Marrietta, SC, passed away at his home on September 18, 2025.

Zachary was born in New Hartford, NY, on May 9, 1997. He graduated from New Hartford Senior High School in 2015. He lived in Butler, PA, for several years before moving to Anderson, SC.

Zachary had a big personality that couldn’t be ignored. He loved being out by the water with a fishing pole in hand and spending time with his dogs. He was hilarious. Sometimes on purpose, and sometimes not. And could make people laugh even when they didn’t want to. Stubborn, sarcastic, and unapologetically himself, Zachary lived life on his own terms. For all his rough edges, he cared deeply about the people he loved.

He was an electrician and took great pride in his work. He could tackle any challenge he set his mind to, and his skill and dedication showed in everything he did.

Life wasn’t always easy for Zachary. He struggled with mental illness and addiction, but for the last two years of his life, he was sober. He regularly attended N.A. meetings and, in the end, he was seeking forgiveness and peace from God. Those struggles do not define the whole of who he was.

Zachary was loved by all his family and friends, including the Maschie family, who took him under their wing and welcomed him into their family.

Zachary will be missed, but he is no longer in pain. He is at peace and his battle is over.

He leaves behind his sisters, Katy Reed and Lily Hynes; his mother and step father Amanda and Joe Jones; His Father Todd Rooney; his grandparents, Allan and Nora Rivecca; his niece, Emma Reed nephews, Jaxson and Lucas Reed; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who cherished him.

Zachary’s life reminds us that even in the hardest battles, joy, humor, and love can shine through. In his memory, the family encourages acts of kindness and support for those fighting battles that are often invisible.
