Yvonne's obituary

Yvonne Jacqueline (Hoehne) Macchia arrived earlier than expected on August 6, 1938, while her parents, Herbert and Minnie Hoehne, were away on a business trip in North Dakota. She lived a life rooted in faith, resilience, joy, and had a heart for serving others. She was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on December 7, 2020.

Yvonne grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and after graduating high school, married her first love. With his service in the U.S. Army, they spent three years in Germany, a time she always remembered with great fondness.

In the mid-1960s, following her divorce, Yvonne moved to Sylmar, California to be near her parents after their retirement. Determined to build a new life for herself and guided by a strong sense of purpose, she enrolled in nursing school and proudly earned her credentials as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).

In 1968, she married Frank Macchia. Together they welcomed their daughter Arianne in 1972. The following year, the family relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Yvonne created a warm and inviting home. She was a fun and spirited mom, and Arianne’s friends were drawn to the inviting atmosphere, always cherishing the time they spent there.

Professionally, Yvonne found deep fulfillment as a traveling school nurse—a role that allowed her to combine her medical training with her passion for nurturing young lives. When her father passed away, she devoted herself fully to her mother’s care, remaining by her side until the end of her mother's life.

After her divorce from Frank Macchia, Yvonne continued forward with the strength and grace that defined her character. She became the beloved school nurse at Kendall-Whittier Elementary in Tulsa. There, she was known for being a fierce advocate for the children under her care. Her compassion and unwavering support left an indelible mark on countless young lives.

Upon retirement, Yvonne remained deeply involved in her church community. Her faith was a constant source of strength and comfort throughout every season of life.

To her grandsons, Talon and Daniel, she was the family’s fierce protector. Whenever she sensed injustice or a threat to those she loved, she could be a little scary, enough to make anyone think twice before crossing her. Today, they lovingly tease Arianne that whenever she steps up to defend or stand firm, her “inner grandma” is coming out.

Yet beneath that fierce exterior was a woman who embraced fun and adventure. She was silly when it mattered most and always ready to make memories with those she loved. Her grandsons were the light of her life and brought her immeasurable pride and happiness.

Yvonne Jacqueline Macchia was a loyal friend, a hard worker, a prayer warrior, and above all a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Arianne Macchia Leisher and grandsons Joseph Talon Dryer and Daniel Leisher.

Her strength continues to inspire those who knew her; her love remains a guiding force; and her legacy—rooted in protection, joy, service, and devotion—lives on in every life she touched. May her memory be an enduring blessing to all who knew her.
