Yvette's obituary

Yvette was born on July 23, 1968, in Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI, to Mr. and Mrs. Austin and Gloria Benjamin. The family moved to Miami, Florida in 1975 where Yvette resided with her parents and sisters until she left for college. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida in August 1991; an Occupational Therapy Certificate of Completion from Temple University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in January 1997; and a Master of Science in Human Services from Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota in January 2007. Yvette shared her practical, personal, and spiritual voice with friends and family through word and song. She published her first poem around the age of fifteen, and was the author of over 100 devotional thoughts. Her love of writing propelled her published devotional “A Spiritual Journey” while her love of God inspired it.

Yvette has raised 2 beautiful daughters and was a dedicated supporter of them in all of their pursuits. Yvette nurtured and loved them – preparing them to become emotionally strong and self-confident women. Through both of them you see glimpses of Yvette’s strength, sense of humor, and intelligence.

Her survivors include her parents, Austin and Gloria Benjamin, FL; daughters, Genelle of Suffolk, VA, Jamiella of Atlanta, GA; sisters Valencia of Gainesville, FL, Babette of Waverly, VA, and Jackie of Dallas, TX; Nephews, R. Durell, Terrill, and Ehrin of Gainesville, FL, Kadin of GA, Bryce of Waverly, VA; Nieces, Kya, of Gainesville, FL, Arielle and Annja of Avon Park, FL; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
