Yoshio's obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Yoshio Kamimura, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who left us peacefully on September 13, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in Shibushi, Kagoshima, Japan, on April 28, 1932, Yoshio was the third of six children and the second son. He lived a life defined by hard work, discipline, and quiet determination.
He had a high sense of honor, commitment, and responsibility.
He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Junko Kamimura; his son, Roy Kamimura; daughter-in-law, Shirley Yee; and his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Truong, Derrick Truong, Brandon Truong, and Ryan Kamimura.
For over three decades, Yoshio owned and operated one of the early Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area, Edokko. With his wife, he started the business at a time when Japanese food was still viewed as exotic, not having reached the level of popularity it currently enjoys.
Retiring in 1999, he and his wife celebrated with overdue trips to both Japan and Korea.
A memorial service to celebrate Yoshio’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Sunset View Cemetery & Mortuary (101 Colusa Ave, El Cerrito, CA). The reception (oteki) will also be held at Sunset View from noon to 3 pm. Please join us to share a meal and celebrate your memories of him.
Though Yoshio will be deeply missed, his memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. His values, kindness, and enduring spirit will forever remain a guiding light to his family and community.
