I wish so very much that Yoshiko were here to celebrate her 90th birthday. However,  as I am in Eugene now I’m thinking about her every day, holding her memory close.
Thinking warm thoughts of Yoshiko on her birthday

One of Yoshiko's favorite Japanese NHK programs was "Venetia," about a British woman of that name who had settled in Ohara, northern Kyoto.  Here is one example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srcM4RCJ4sw&ab_channel=MarquetaGraham

A few years later when I moved to Kyoto I found that my good friend was very close to Venetia, and I had the opportunity to meet her and sing with my friend and Venetia while strolling around Ohara. Yoshiko san's varied interests always made me smile. Claudia always supported her mother's interests and programs and I think also learned from them also, as her exposure to Japan was intermittent. Yoshiko also loved a particular green tea from the Izumo area, 上雁ヶ音出雲の里  (Jōkarigane). As I lived in Japan, Benjamin wanted me to try very hard to find it and mail it, which I did.

Yoshiko san was not only lively but gentle. She viewed the world with compassion and strength. Her colorful wardrobe, sharp observations, and quick laugh will always be with me. I feel lucky to have known her through Claudia for many years.
