Yvonne's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Yvonne Smith on January 29, 2024. Yvonne was born on January 6, 1952, and she spent her life touching the hearts of those around her with her humor, empathy, and unwavering strength.

Yvonne's reserved yet brightly-shining personality illuminated the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She found joy in simple pleasures - from watching episodes of Bonanza and Chicago PD to enjoying her favorite drinks, including an ice-cold Pepsi. Yvonne found comfort and happiness in the small things, and her love for games like Dominos and horse shoes kept her youthful and energetic.

Yvonne was giving, both to her family and to her community. She shared valuable lessons about loyalty and kindness, always leading by example. Her talents ranged from being an accomplished crochet instructor to an avid horse shoe enthusiast and gifted doll maker. To many, Yvonne was more than a relative or friend; she was a pillar of her community who will be deeply missed.

Yvonne leaves behind a loving family, including her daughters, Yolanda Smith and Rose Clardy Smith, sons, David and Derrick Smith, and her cherished granddaughters, Cheyenne and Charisse Clardy. She is also survived by her brothers, Shem Yahudah Prince and John E. (Junebug) Taylor 3rd, her son-in-law, Jermain Clardy and Jose Figueroa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Yvonne was predeceased by her mother, Rose Anna, and she will undoubtedly be welcomed by her with open arms in the heavens above.

Yvonne's lifelong commitment to walking was not just a testament to her dedication to health, but also a metaphor for her journey through life: measured, consistent, and always moving forward. Her memory will persist in the hearts of her family, friends, and community members, reminding us all to move forward, cherish the simple joys, and give without hesitation.
