Yolanda's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yolanda "Yolie" Figueroa, who left us on December 6, 2023. Born on December 31, 1946, Yolanda's life was marked by her adaptability, confidence, easy-going nature, friendliness and intelligence. She was a beacon of light to those who were blessed to know her.
Graduating from Deer Park High School in 1965, she then pursued higher education at Suffolk Community College, earning her associate degree in Recreational Therapy in 1977. Her educational experiences fostered enduring friendships and a sense of direction for her life journey.
Yolanda's life was one of resilience and courage. One of her greatest accomplishments was her relocation to California, a decision that exemplified her adventurous spirit and willingness to embrace change. In the face of uncertainty, Yolanda's inherent adaptability shone through, reminding us all that the only constant in life is change.
She was known for her radiant smile and warm presence, which made everyone feel comfortable and appreciated. But even more than her upbeat disposition, Yolanda was renowned for her wisdom. One of her most profound teachings was to always give the benefit of the doubt - a lesson that forged a path of understanding and tolerance for those around her.
Yolanda will be deeply missed by her beloved daughter, Gina Garcia, her cherished grandchildren, Joshua Murguia, Leu and Santana Garcia as well as her nephews, Shannon Atkinson and Christopher DeSoto, whom she leaves behind. They will carry forward her message of kindness and her legacy of embracing the simplicity and sincerity of human connections.
A burial service honoring Yolanda will be held on January 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Olivet Gardens of Cypress Lawn Memorial Park 1601 Hillside Blvd, Colma, CA. This will be followed by a reception at 722 Higate Dr., Daly City, CA. All who knew Yolanda and were touched by her vibrant personality are welcome to join in celebrating and bidding farewell to a wonderful woman whose impact on our lives will forever remain.
As we remember Yolanda, let us strive to embody the love and positivity that she so effortlessly exhibited throughout her life. Her spirit will continue to live on through the multitude of lives she touched.
