Ximena's obituary
Ximena Carolina Cho
June 6, 1978 – June 17, 2025
Ximena Carolina Cho, our beloved Queen of Hearts, transitioned peacefully from her earthly body on June 17, 2025, just eleven days after her 47th birthday. Her passing, after an eight-year courageous battle with breast cancer, leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew her, yet her radiant spirit and profound "SOFT POWER" continue to inspire.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, on June 6, 1978, Ximena moved to the United States as a child with her family, seeking safety and new beginnings. She embraced her new life in Miami, attending University School where she forged many enduring friendships. With a passion for beauty, health, and well-being, she studied fashion merchandising at IFAC and became a licensed esthetician, bringing joy to clients through her skillful facials and beauty treatments at esteemed establishments like The Standard Hotel and Turnberry Isle.
Ximena was a woman of exquisite beauty, both inside and out. Even in her youth, navigating the vibrant South Beach nightlife, her elegance, class, and unwavering integrity set her apart. Destiny reconnected her with her devoted husband, Tony Cho, in October 2008. What began as a deep soul connection blossomed into a sacred, alchemical union on 11-11-11, a date imbued with powerful numerological significance that mirrored their exceptional bond. Their love transcended time and space, impacting countless lives.
Before their reunion, Ximena embarked on a transformative journey, deepening her spiritual practice through extensive travel, including living and working in fashion in Europe (Hugo Boss in Madrid, Paris, Barcelona) and dedicated spiritual study in India and Bali, where she embraced yoga and holistic living.
Alongside her husband, Ximena was a driving force behind Cho Ventures, LP, the family office that owns and operates a portfolio of impact businesses focused on regenerative placemaking, including the Future of Cities, The Climate and Innovation HUB, Miami, and the Phoenix Arts and Innovation District in Jacksonville. Her visionary leadership extended to her role as Co-Founder of ChoZen Eco Retreat in Sebastian, Florida, a sanctuary dedicated to connection with nature.
Just prior to her passing on earth day, Ximena proudly launched her profound legacy, The ChoZen Center for Regenerative Living (CCRL), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. As a bioregional hub, CCRL is dedicated to biodiversity protection, regenerative living and agriculture, small local and artisan business incubation, and, crucially, to amplifying the voices of Indigenous peoples from the Amazon and around the world in their sacred work to protect and steward Mother Earth. Ximena's deep spiritual work with indigenous tribes, from the Kogi in Colombia to the Yawanawa, Asháninka, and Huni Kuin, showcased her unwavering dedication to humanity and the planet.
Ximena possessed a rare and unique power—a SOFT POWER. She taught through love and compassion, her mere presence and undivided attention carrying immense weight. She embraced her spiritual names, Sharada (goddess of beauty, music, art) and Kavia (Kogi name for fertility), and was lovingly dubbed "the Angel" by her best friend, Jamie Murray. She exuded saint-like qualities, radiating pure light and inspiring the best in all she met with unparalleled integrity and humility.
Despite an eight-year battle with breast cancer, which she profoundly called her "greatest teacher," Ximena never complained. Her courage, positivity, and unwavering spirit were a beacon even in the darkest moments. She gracefully shielded friends and family from the full magnitude of her suffering, always prioritizing their comfort and joy. Her final days were spent planning her sacred transition with Tony, reflecting her selfless nature and unwavering love for others. Her deepest wish was for peace on Earth, peace in our hearts, and the protection of Mother Earth.
Ximena was a child of the earth, her greatest teacher, the love of Tony's life, and his best friend. She is survived by her devoted husband, Tony Cho; their cherished dog, Aki Cho; her loving brother, Andres Castillo; and her beloved parents, Ernesto Castillo and Maria Lopez Varela.
Her legacy and teachings will forever live on in our hearts and minds, in every blade of grass, in every sunset and sunrise, in every tree, bird song, and gentle breeze. May we all learn from her extraordinary example and embody her SOFT POWER, so that peace may prevail, and humanity may one day live in true balance with Mother Nature.
