Xander's obituary

Surrounded by the family he so dearly loved, Xander Kazanowski, 25, of Chicago, went to eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 28th, 2026. No description could possibly do justice to Xander’s character. He possessed a natural charisma that enlivened every room he entered. Truly one of a kind, he was a rare example of a man who had the resolve to carve his own path and live entirely on his own terms. Our hearts are absolutely shattered by the profound tragedy of losing such an irreplaceable personality at such a young age. Though we grieve the many chapters of his life that will now go unwritten, we are forever grateful for the wonderful gift of having had him as a Son, Father, Partner, Brother, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend. Xander will forever be with us through countless memories and the lasting impact he leaves behind.

Xander’s legacy lives on through his daughter, Thea, and his expected son, John. He is survived by his partner, Tori Zanoni; his parents, John and Jan Kazanowski; his siblings, Christian (Stephanie) and Kimberly. He is also held in the hearts of many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a brotherhood of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ken & Dorothy Cobe and Dan & Dina Kazanowski, with whom he is now reunited in eternal peace.

Xander lived life at full speed and with a rare intensity. While his time with us was cut far too short, he lived more in his twenty-five years than many do in a lifetime. Born on May 15, 2000, Xander was the beloved son of John and Jan. Growing up in South Barrington, Illinois, he was known for an independent spirit that was evident from the very start. His childhood was centered around his devoted family, lifelong neighborhood friends, a myriad of athletic endeavors, and an endless supply of adventurous pursuits. An accomplished wrestler throughout middle and high school, he exhibited a grit and tenacity that defined many other arenas of his life. As an avid natural wildlife enthusiast, he also spent much of his youth exploring the outdoors—a passion that he carried with him throughout his life. Whether traveling the world with his family, competing on the wrestling mat, or finding a new animal for his growing collection of pets, Xander always knew how to keep things interesting.

For those who knew Xander well, it was evident that behind the fearless exterior was a deeply compassionate heart. From deciding to donate his birthday gifts to charity while in grade school to later refusing to let the “little guy” stand alone, Xander truly understood what it meant to show care for “the least of these.” He was also a young man of deep conviction who stood firmly by his beliefs, regardless of their popularity. Unsurprisingly voted "Most Opinionated" by his high school peers, Xander was never afraid of a challenge and never stayed silent when he felt a principle was at stake.

As Xander transitioned into adulthood and first attended college, he immersed himself in the study of economics, finance, and business. It was here that his unrelenting entrepreneurial spirit took hold. At just nineteen years old, he made the characteristic decision to strike it out on his own and channeled his drive into founding his first company, Wurk Services. Built on the principles of providing independence for his “Wurkers” and excellence for his customers, the venture was a true testament to his ability to inspire and motivate those around him. This era of Xander’s life was defined by a million ideas and the boundless energy required to chase them. He was a man who carved his own path through sheer hustle, doing anything and everything—from landscaping to tutoring—to bring his visions to life. Yet, this relentless ambition was balanced by a vibrant, creative soul. He was a modern-day Renaissance man who found expression through acting and modeling, and who frequently shared his voice and music at open-mic nights.

Amidst these myriad pursuits, Xander became a father to his beautiful daughter, Thea. No matter the challenges life presented, his commitment to her never faltered. He carried his role as a father in his heart and exhibited a steadfast loyalty and devotion to her. In recent months, Xander was focused on a new and hopeful chapter of his life. He was looking forward with great anticipation to the birth of his second child with his partner, Tori. In his daughter, Thea, and his soon-to-be-born son, John, Xander finds his most lasting expression.

Xander’s story is not defined by the years he was given, but by the vigor with which he filled them. True to his character, his final act was a perfect expression of his generous heart. As an organ donor, he saved multiple lives and helped countless others move closer to the miracle of a second chance. In leaving this earthly legacy of sacrifice, he remained anchored in his eternal hope. His greatest strength lay in his deep-seated faith in God. He proudly professed Christ as his savior and stood firm in his convictions until the very end. Though we will forever carry the scars of his early departure from this earth, we find peace in the promise of his eternal rest. We rejoice in the knowledge that Xander is in heaven, standing in the presence of the Lord he served, and that his restless spirit has finally found its home.

A memorial service to honor Xander’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, in the Chapel (Building B) of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, to support the future and well-being of Xander’s children, donations can be made to the memorial fund established in his honor: https://gofund.me/1947aac59
