Wolfgang was a Person once you meet him , you will never forget him. Him and I go back a long way, the Time when he was still in Germany and working for the Military Club System in Germany, by accident we crossed pass again, when I stopped in a German Restaurant not knowing who was the Owner. Since myself was new in the Restaurant Business , I was very blessed to learn a lot from Wolfgang he is surely missed by me

I just recently heard of Chef Wolfgang’s passing. I worked several events with Frieda & Wolfgang, at Ports of Call Catering. They were both so wonderful to work with. After assisting at these events, I developed my own love of cooking. The culinary world will never be the same. My heart weeps for Frieda & his family. A lovely tribute to Chef Wolfgang from his son & son in law.

I am a family friend and former part-time employee of the Beyers. I don’t know where to even start! First, Wolfgang was an amazing chef and role model. When he hired me as a teenager to work at the Yacht Club in Chicago and other catering events, I learned the importance of hard work, “doing things right,” creativity, and generosity. Wolfgang had the strictest work ethic that he passed on to all of us who worked with him. I learned cooking, serving, and customer service skills from Wolfgang. I will never forget that after each 12 hour shift at the Yacht Club, he would always take time to cook my favorite meal—he did this for all his workers. I would always want a grilled cheese that he would always make special with grilled tomatoes! I can still taste this!
Wolfgang and Elfriede treated us like part of the family. When I learned German after living in Germany, he always made me speak in German with him. He would invite us to stay overnight after work to swim in their pool, play billiards, and play pinball! Wolfgang is the one who taught me how to shoot pool and I learned how to aim the ball in the pocket. To this day, I’m not a bad pool player due to him!
As you read from his obituary, Wolfgang lived an adventurous and fulfilling life. He worked hard and played hard. He was all about teaching others his craft, and never held back any knowledge. He loved to have fun! He was a strict boss, but you knew at the end of the day, he cared about you. He was a humble man—always coming out from behind the kitchen to say hello to customers at Schnitzel Platz. He laughed at me for wanting to be vegetarian, but made the most beautiful vegetable plate when I would ask for it. He was a good man. May he rest in peace knowing he made a difference in the world. May his family know that he made a positive impact on others. Mein tiefstes Beileid, Jennifer E Bell
