Jeannot's obituary
Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1956, Jeannot was raised there until he turned 17, when he traveled to the United States to study mathematics. He attended Cushing Junior College in Pennsylvania, George Washington University in the District of Columbia, and the University of Maryland. Jeannot served in the United States Navy from 1992-1993 as an aircraft mechanic. After leaving the military, he worked as an auto mechanic. He was a guitarist and loved Congolese soukous and Cuban music. He had an inquisitive mind, with a passion for math and engineering. Debilitated by congestive heart failure, his health began to fail increasingly over the past year and worsened significantly in the past few months.
Jeannot was predeceased by his parents, Kiankandu Nengolo Jean Mafuta and Nsimba Nziki Ann Mafuta.
Jeannot is survived by his daughter, Cara Michelle Mafuta Raboteau, his two grandchildren, Lucia Jude and Paz Celestine Raboteau, his son-in-law, Charles Raboteau, his nine siblings, Jules Mafuta, Vuvu Mafuta, Véronique Vika, Wina Mafuta, Jeanne Imayanga, Claude Mafuta, Rodolphe Mafuta, Augustine Mafuta, and Berbiche Mafuta, his sisters- and brothers-in-law, his nieces and nephews, and his grandnieces and grandnephews.
A private celebration of Papa Jeannot’s life was held on Sunday, May, 23, 2021 at 3:00PM, consisting of a scattering of ashes ceremony at sea aboard the Metamorphosis vessel off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Washington D.C. VA Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center, Montgomery Hospice, Capital Caring Health, and Genesis Funeral Home for their dedication, care and compassion.
