Winston's obituary

Winston—our beloved cat, gentle guardian, and quiet teacher—passed away leaving behind not only our family but a community forever changed by his presence.
More than a cat, Winston was a fixture of daily life and a source of comfort, joy, and connection. He chose his people intentionally, appearing on porches, sidewalks, playgrounds, and at the local daycare as if on his daily rounds of care. Children knew him by name. Parents trusted him implicitly. Neighbors looked for him as a sign that all was well. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, calm, and welcome.
Winston was especially devoted to children. He would sit patiently near play areas, stroll confidently through the daycare, and offer himself freely for gentle affection. Many children believed—rightfully—that Winston came just to see them. In a world that often moves too fast, Winston slowed it down. He reminded us how powerful quiet companionship can be.
To those who knew him well, Winston was a teacher. He modeled boundaries without aggression, presence without demand, and love without condition. Even though he belonged to us and had his home under our roof, he found belonging and a home with everyone he came across—a shared gift, a collective responsibility, a small soul who carried something much larger.
Winston leaves behind our family, who loved him deeply, and a neighborhood of friends - young and old - who will continue to look for him in the places he loved the most. His absence is profound, but his impact remains woven into the fabric of this community.
He was loved. He mattered. And he will not be forgotten.
