Wilma's obituary

Wilma Floyrene Allen slipped away to heaven on Sunday July 1, 2018. For 3 weeks prior to her passing her daughter, Jeannette Grimm remained at her bedside. There was a daily stream of family and caregivers expressing their love and affection to this most remarkable lady.

Wilma was born in Ozark Missouri, November 17, 1922 to the late Floyd and Ona Haslip and will be buried in Ontario, CA at Bellevue Memorial Park beside her Beloved Husband, Glenn O. Allen who preceded her in death on February 5, 1994. Wilma and Glenn are survived by their 2 children: Larry Allen of Astoria, Oregon and Jeannette Grimm of Thousand Oaks, CA.

Wilma’s greatest joy was 5 Grand Children:
Kerri Dechant and her husband Steve (Daughter of Larry and Dianne Allen), Bryan Allen and his wife Jennifer (Son of Larry and Dianne Allen), Jill Alman and her husband Bob (Daughter of Larry and Dianne Allen), Craig Grimm and his wife Joanne ( Son of Jeannette and Gordon Grimm), and David Grimm and his wife Cameron ( Son of Jeannette and Gordon Grimm).

There were 6 Precious Great Grand Children:
Cameron Dechant and Mitchell Dechant (Sons of Kerri and Steve Dechant), Kyle Allen (deceased) and Jacob Allen (Sons of Bryan and Robin Allen), Erika Almandinger (Daughter of Jill and Bob Alman), Sophia Grimm (Daughter of Craig and Joanne Grimm).

Wilma was the eldest of 10 children, all born in Christian County Missouri and all the family remained in the mid-west with the exception of Wilma and her family and her sister, Zelma Kruger and husband Bill Kruger (deceased) who settled in Ontario, California. The Kruger family includes daughters, Sandy Helms Renstrom (deceased) and Diana Helms. The sons are Clyde Helms, Don Helms, Mark Krueger and Mike Kruger.

Wilma’s remaining siblings are;
Betty Julian of Springfield MO, Peggy Lawrence of Springfield, MO, Joe Donald Haslip of Oklahoma, Roy Lee Haslip of Springfield, MO.

Preceding Wilma in death are; Parents: Floyd and Ona Haslip. Husband: Glenn O. Allen, Son-in-Law: Gordon Grimm, Great Grand Son: Kyle Allen known by Nana & Papa as “Huggy-Bear”, Siblings: Verlin Haslip, Fern Lamb, Jack Haslip and Billy Dean Haslip.

Wilma & Glenn Allen came to Ontario, California in 1948, where they worked and raised their children. They enjoyed lifelong friendships and often traveled and vacationed throughout the USA in their motor home. When they settled into retirement, they became the world’s best babysitters, always surrounded by loving and caring family and friends to the very end of a fulfilling life together, which ended with the passing of beloved “Papa Allen” in 1994.

In August, 2010 Wilma moved to Upland Care Center which she considered “Home”. There, she was attended to by a loving staff of doctors, nurses and caregivers. Over the years she had constant visits from children, grandchildren, great grandchildren
and friends, including: Dianne and Ken Allen (Dianne worked as a volunteer in the garden for Upland Care), Eric David would surprise her with visits from Astoria, Oregon and former neighbors came from Fernwood Mobile Park in nearby Ontario. With a family full of boys, she gushed over great-granddaughters Erika and Sophia. Every weekend, her grandson, David and his wife, Cameron Grimm were there, faithfully, to hang out with their “Gram”. Phone calls with her son, Larry, in Oregon were always full of gossip, punctuated with fits of laughter. Wilma always commented that her caregivers were angels from heaven and indeed they were. But, most devoted, was her daughter, Jeannette, who commuted from Thousand Oaks to oversee every facet of her well-being, including, care of her wardrobe, jewelry, laundry and being the go between the facility’s administration and updating her brother, Larry in Astoria Oregon. Personally taking mom to many, many doctor appointments and follow-up visits. Wilma will be remembered for her great sense of style, getting dressed every morning in co-ordinating outfits, jewelry, hairstyle and nail polish. Her sense of humor was always on display, especially at the annual birthday parties where she was surrounded by loved ones. She adored family and flowers, loved chocolates, pizza and banana cream pie and a constant cup of strong coffee, no sugar or cream, thank you! She treasured the cards and letters she received over the years and saved them all to read and re-read. Wilma enchanted all those around her with an indomitable spirit. She was proof that at age 95, even after a quadruple bypass, a pacemaker and confinement to a wheelchair, a life well-lived means greeting each day with a heart full of love and joy and giving thanks to those who help you and spontaneously... laughing out loud.
