Bill's obituary
Willis "Bill" Porter of Cottonwood, CA passed quietly in Stockton on July 20, 2024 after an extended battle with dementia.
Born to Lena and Willis Porter, Bill grew up in Arcata, CA. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean war era. He was preceded in death by his wife Joy and siblings Marjorie and Howard.
Bill was a lifelong fisherman. In his career as a real estate researcher he had fishing holes throughout Northern California in the counties he lived and traveled to for work. He eventually moved to Lake California in Cottonwood where the Sacramento River was essentially in his backyard. He fished for salmon for most of his notable years and always had smoked salmon, frozen and jars of canned salmon to share with his friends and family. Bills last fishing years were spent fishing at Lake Shasta out of Digger Bay.
Bill was an active member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.
Bill Porter is survived by four children, three daughters and a son; the extended Mahar family; and having grand and great grand children before his passing.
