Willie's obituary

Willie Sowell was born on September 18, 1968, and passed away on April 25, 2023. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community. He was predeceased by his father, Rev. Willie Sowell, Sr., and his mother, Min. Mary Sowell.

Willie is survived by his children: Willie Anderson, Jestine Watson, Khemal Holder, Willie Anderson, Caden Newkirk, and Payton Newkirk. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Zendaya Gray, Juelz Watson, Malaya Moore, and Nelley Watson. Willie was a cherished brother to Pandora Sowell, Samantha Sowell, and Frederica Sowell. He was a loving uncle to Jasmin Sowell, Courtney Sowell, Calva Waters, and Tatjana Sowell.

Willie graduated from John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, NY, in 1986. Throughout his life, he held various jobs, working for the Department of Sanitation in 1990, Nitro Construction Services in 1997, and later in the real estate industry in 2009. In his early childhood, he was an usher of the New Covenant Church of Christ, but later found a new church home at Community Christian Church, where he was baptized by Rev. Jeff Butler

He had a warm and funny personality and was strong-minded. Willie enjoyed banana pudding and Malta, with navy blue being his favorite color. A fan of Lyfe Jennings' music, his favorite song was "Must Be Nice." The best lesson he had to share was "do unto others as you have done upon you."

Willie leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of many. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
