Willie Mae and Marion Addison

Willie Mae Williams and Marion Addison, united in holy matrimony in New York in November of 1959. They were childhood sweethearts in their hometown of Pineville, S.C., they were blessed with four beautiful children; Nanette Gwendolena, Saulmon Cintron, Cecil Maurice and Derrick Addison.
Willie Mae (France) Addison, was born on September 3rd 1936 in Pineville, S.C to Miss Sarah Williams and Josh Benekin of Pineville. She was raised by her maternal grandmother Mama Rose with her cousin, Aaron (Kidd) Williams, and with her aunt Lydia Greene (Ann Nig) and her cousins, Shirley and Aaron. France, graduated from J.K. Gourdine High School. She attended and joined Day Dawn Baptist Church where she was active with the usher board. In 1955 she
migrated north from Pineville, S.C. to Brooklyn, NY. There she joined Cornerstone Baptist Church, and later, Evergreen First Baptist Church in Brooklyn where she was an active and much-loved member. She served on the usher board and was friend and confident to many of the youth.
Marion (Bubba) Addison was born on Sept 12th 1932 to loving parents Saul and Viola Addison of Old Field (St. Stephen) South Carolina. Marion joined St. Matthews Baptist Church. He attended Elementary School in St. Stephen. He transitioned to the J.K Gourdine High School where he graduated.
Upon graduation, Bubba moved to Philadelphia, Pa. where he resided with his sister Wilhemena until he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
After being discharged from the U.S. Army he attended and graduated from Morris College in Sumpter, SC. After graduation he moved to New York City where he reconnected with his childhood sweetheart Willie Mae Williams
In 1955 Tutu migrated north from Pineville to Brooklyn, NY. There she joined Cornerstone Baptist Church, and later, Evergreen First Baptist Church in Brooklyn where she was an active and much-loved member. She served on the usher board and was friend and confidant to many of the youth. In 1959 she married Mr. Marion Addison of St. Stephen, S.C.
Bubba, as he was known, worked for the U.S. Embassy for a few years. He then became employed by New York State Corrections where he worked until he retired. After his retirement he took over the kitchen where he would cook for family and friends. His famous collard greens, and cornbread was his specialty. One of his passions was gardening. He grew all types of vegetables and he shared his bounty with friends, family and neighbors. In the early days he and Tutu would can peaches, tomatoes, beans and other bounty. He continued to garden throughout his later years. He also had a “sweet tooth”and enjoyed making yummy cakes and pies.
He was an avid fisherman, going on fishing excursions that lasted days in NY and in his native SC. He took his children and then his granchildren on fishing trips. Marion and France, known as Grangran and Tutu to their amazing 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
France worked for Citibank, first in Manhattan then in Long Island for 23 years. In 1981 they moved to Brentwood, Long Island.
France became a member of Ebenezer Christian Church (a Spanish Assembly of God Church) in Bayshore, NY. France affectionately became Tutu after the birth of her first grandchild in Hawaii. At Ebenezer Church, Tutu was an active member at Ebenezer, expanding her spiritual life by attending their Biblical School. Then she served as a Missionettes teacher then, expanding her leadership to become the Coordinator of the Missionettes in her local church. Tutu then became the Coordinator of the district in Long Island. She assisted with children’s church. She also taught as an assistant teacher in the Ebenezer Christian Church Academy teaching until it closed.
Tutu then served as a deaconess under the pastorate of several pastors and served on the board of directors at Ebenezer.
Tutu’s love for children’s ministry continued as she convinced the pastor to organize VBS in 2012. She continued as director with Kimberly Duque until 2016, whereafter she became an advisor.
Tutu was an avid giver. She was always doing something to bless someone and show her love whether crocheting hats or blankets, making clothing for the children to do pantomime presentations in, making craft projects for her precious grandchildren . She also loved growing beautiful flowers and working in the garden with Grangran. Tutu loved to travel and enjoyed visits wherever her daughter and grandchildren were stationed with Nanette's husband.
Tutu and Grangran were taken a few days of one another. Grangran is preceded in death by adopted sister Christine Wright. He leaves behind 3 sisters, Wilhelmena of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Berniece Kelly of St. Stephen, SC, Ernestine Grant (Aunt Dee) of Charleston, SC. Also brothers Rev. Fred Addison and Harold Addison (Smiley - Uncle Bob) and wife Marjorie. He is mourned by his loyal friend Belin , and Leroy Greene.
Tutu and Grangran leave to mourn 6 dearly loved grandchildren; Jaquan Levons, Janesha Levons, Jermel Levons, Ashley Addison, Ashton Addison and Dahlia Addison. They are missed by their 4 beautiful great grandchildren, Thandi J. Levons, Aziza R. Levons, Kailani J. Levons and Giuseppe J. Baiocchi. Tutu was also mother to her 2 adopted daughters, Kimberly Duque and Amaryllis Guzman and adopted grandmother to Rosie M., Victoria M., Sahara Jackson, Nigeria Jackson and Emmanuel Wilson (godson). Grangran and Tutu also leave behind a host of dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
